No it didnt come across that way. I am on board with what you are saying. I know we need new shooters and soon. I hope to come your way and shoot with you and the the young sharp shooter.

AJJ and I might attend at the same time with you...we will see how plans go.

Thanks, I appreciate your understanding. My group will definately make plans to attend Red Castle in August. June will be taken by the Southern Nationals and July will be the Nationals in Raton......I would encourage you to attend any match that you can if you want to build up attendance at your club. Getting folks out is the root of growth in our sport.

T-Time - newbie here from OKC. Also a member of the OKC Gun Club (shot skeet exclusively but branching out possibly into SB silhouette). I think there's a local match on June 30 and will plan to observe.

Looking at a CZ Silhouette or Varmint or the new Weatherby XXII if I can get one. Sure'd like to fondle one before buying. What's the most common rifle shot at your club?

Anchutz is at most matches. Rem, CZ, and 10-22 are also popular. You can shoot your way into Hunter AAA with a tweeked 10-22 for under $200 for the rifle and tweeks. If I was starting out now, I would get a CZ American and spend a few bucks on a trigger job and bedding.

IMHO (Your mileage will vary) the easiest setup is a CZ Silhouette with a Weaver KT15 scope, BKL rings (you may need a cantilever set to get eye relief right) and and a Brooks trigger kit. With a little more cash and work, a CZ Varmint, pillar bedded, with the same scope and trigger treatment is hard to beat. Your next stop from there is an Anschutz 1712 and Leupold FX-III x25 or a custom.

So far I have to say I am very happy with it shoots nicely even without touching the trigger, but the Brooks kits is on the way. I went with a Simmons 8-32 for now and it is good enough for me at the moment I will have to see how it holds up to the dialing over time. BKL offset rings were just not high enough for comfort so I have the risers on the way now as well. Besides that I wish they included more than one clip so need a few of those and perhaps a slip on butt cover to give me a little more LOP since I am 6'4".

I am quite happy with it and once I get the trigger done it should only be better. Shooting 3" spinners at chicken range everyday for a week now and the past two days I am going 7-8/10

The wife asked if it was what I wanted and I told her it would do for now. Told her I won't start hinting at anything custom till I am AAA. She tells me to take my time lol. I am new to this and for the 3 matches I have gone to I used a Rem 597 semi auto with Tasco 3x9 so this should be a marked improvement as my best round was a 14 and during the worst wind yet, go figure.

Sounds like a good setup Dee! It's my understanding that slip on butt pads are illegal in silhouette, but a local shoot might let it pass. There's probably someone in your group that knows how to extend the LOP, so ask around. What kind of ammunition are you using?

yeah I wasn't quite sure as to the legality of the slip on but if it does not raise the comb line and maintains a line (with exception of the skin over the existing stock which is minimal and of no holding advantage> I was hoping it would be legal. Seems fair enough not to be forced to get a custom stock just to add some length. But if need be I will just put a new one on thats longer to me its the same difference. Either way I am shootin

As for ammo I have only had the chance to try 2 flavors so far have some variety of that coming as well. Just went with the cheap stuff in hopes this rifle loves it

The remington target loads while a little hot are shooting nicely for me as are Rem Sub sonic 38g. About a 2 inch POI shift at 40 meters between the two. I think the target is 1150 and the Sub 1050 fps.

Setting up a range at the new casa and plan to shoot fairly often as that was part of my property criteria. I will be shooting AG sils and FT here as well. Plus my 9mm etc etc

Have my first match with it this weekend so we will see how it goes, I have much more confidence in this rifle versus my truck gun Rem 597 semi auto.

I plan to alternate shooting SB and AG both open ad target rifle and pistol searching for targets etc now and have some located.

As I said I am new to this sport but been shooting all my life. Trying it competitively is fun and I always love to challenge myself.

Will: Lets see if we can generate some Tulsa/OkC interest in a trip to OFGC July 21. Maybe we can get some of the Benton Boys to drive over and promote shooting the 3rd leg of the trifecta. We might generate a crowd...and then go to Skinney's(?) for catfish.

Dee, for good cheap ammunition try the Federal Automatch. It is high velocity so some folks might object, but it is legal because it isn't Stinger fast.

Kess - appreciate the offer but I just found out that OKC has a non-sanctioned match on July 7-8. Actually, it's a pistol match but they let rimfire rifles shoot too.

Wish you could make it over for the July 7th match...we could use some new shooters. I also have a CZ 452 with Weaver T-24 like Kess. Love my gun! Please join us soon. Also in September we will have the Arkansas Regionals and you need to plan to attend. It will be a blast. Kess, Mark, and myself went last year and I must say I had a great time.

Kess - I might be on family vacation on the 21st but want to go if that date is open. Lets talk about it next match unless you are headed to Raton??? You need to come out and watch my boys shoot...they are doing well and having a blast...plus I brought out my neighbor and his son and added 4 new shooters to our ranks.
