scope alignment problem

Shimming is not an option for me. I just don't want to jeopardize the Leupold warranty.

I will go along with the ring placement reversal as a suggestion. The shimming part/Leupold warranty part?????
I have shimmed several scopes over the years, Weavers, Leupolds... never had any problems with doing that nor have I ever had a problem with Leupold or Sightron not honoring a warranty... espcially for shimming a scope.

After some thought, I think I am going to try shimming as Evelio described. I will try using business cards. I assume you cut them to fit the entire surface of the bottom ring, so the windage will not be affected?

You can also use file negative from the old camera days , business card could hold moister .

The reason for using bussiness cards or negative film, is that they will not damage the scope tube like alluminum shims will. Also once the bussiness card is compressed it will not absurb any mosture. I have been using them for over 30 years with no problem or damage to any of the tubes.

Thanks for the shimming information. I have made 4 business card shims for my BKL 263 (double strap mounts). Two for each rear strap. I will start from the beginning next Saturday, and work into the shims as necessary.

It surprises me that you advise against using a torque wrench. I've been using one to make sure I don't over tighten (20 inch/lbs), but if you say finger tight is good enough, okay! Of course, your fingers are probably stronger than mine, and more experienced, too!

BlauBear, nothing wrong with using a torque wrench, AS LONG AS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. For somebody who is asking on how to mount a scope!!!!!! I will never tell them to use a torque wrench. If I had a dollar for each stripped screw head that I had to drill out, I could own a helicopter to fly me directly to each match location, and maybe some good looking gal to carry my gun.
I am just day dreaming now.

Never hurts to dream! Since I am an amateur, using a torque wrench reassures me that things aren't too tight or too loose, and that I can repeat the settings. Plus, if something is loosening up in use, I know it pretty quick and can investigate further.

I've been using small shim pieces cut from plastic water bottles for years. It doesn't hold moisture, won't damage the scope finish, you can't compress it by tightening the rings and it already has a built in arc. It's great!

Put on a set of 257 BKL, two business card shims in the back, and every thing is good. I will be shooting my first match on 5-19. Any tips on prep. for a match

Dakota,
Do your normal routine when it comes to going shooting, whether it is a match or just plinking. Do not try to impose any additional concerns or thoughts because it is a competition. Relax and have fun, if you become too serious it becomes work and the rewards are minimal in silhouette. In another thread it is mentioned that there is very little to compensate for the amount spent in this sport, very true statement. What does offer a reward is the self imposed competition against yourself for a better score than your last time out and general comraderie that comes with all the BS and memories that we throw at each other.
Learning to relax is and then focus on the basics when it is your time to shoot is a challenge in itself. Most of all have fun.

As in most entry level shooting sports, the competion will be looking back from the mirror. My plan is to be observant, meet more shooters, try to gain information and insight, but most of all enjoy the time at the range.
