newbe question about magazines

How many 5-shot magazines do I need if I want to compete in the Pennsylvania state small-bore rifle silhouette championships or the NRA small-bore rifle national championships? Also, where would I get some magazines for an Anschutz 1808 MSR. One final question: Is there a dry-fire firing pin available for my rifle so that I could work out whatever flaws I might have in my shooting form? Thanks in advance for your help. I just want to be prepared for a new competitive sport this spring.

jaja, I would say a min of 2 and a max of whatever you want to buy. You'll get time in-between each set of 5 to reload your mag (15sec) and if you want you can have both magazines loaded before you start your string of 10. BUT....you can only have one magazine on the ready station before each 5 shot string.
It's different with HP silhouette. You have to load your magazines always at the ready command. There are some other caveats, but are you only interested in SB?

I've just started shooting Silhouette, and purchased two, 5-shot ANSCHÜTZ magazines from Nordic Marksman - great service and very quick shipping.

I'm glad to have two magazines, but one would do - there is plenty of time to reload between banks.

I haven't shot one competitive small bore match yet, so I think I'll hold off on the high powered matches until I get some experience with the small bore matches. 60 shot match 3 mags is a good idea. However if shooting standard rifle you can single load. Anschutz has a plastic single load adaptor that works well. Have 3 mags for my 1712 use the single loader most of the time entering as a SR.

Filling mags is a pain time spent to come out of the gun and load single helps my pace. Others see it different.

If you can't find a dry firing pin many people here just use empty brass, rotate it after a couple shots and throw it out after 15ish shots. There are 2 things about putting in brass. The first is it prevents the firing pin from dinging the edge of the chamber, but also it gives the same 'feel' as a real firing. Make sure to clean the brass inside and out before dry firing.

Thanks for the tip regarding dry firing on spent 22 shells. I still cannot find a manual for an Anschutz 1808 MSR. I looked on the Anschutz web site but still can't find a manual entitled Anschutz 1808 MSR. 1808 is not even listed in the 1800 series. Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be deeply appreciated. Those of you who own an Anschutz 1808 MSR, would you mind telling me the exact title of your manual. Perhaps I could find it on the internet if I had the exact title? Thanks in advance for your help.

Or......... you can buy a package of the little yellow drywall inserts. They feed easy and eject when you open the bolt. They last forever.
