I'll bet that if we go back to letting SB go to various clubs around the country independent of HP....more folks would get into silhouette....now it comes across as a cliquish -closed group where you have to travel long ways to shoot SB......
From the comments Dennis made on the Yahoo forum on the position matches it seems like all they do is adjust the entry fees to offset their costs. He said, for those matches at Camp Perry it was $4k a day for staff, housing, meal allowances, awards, etc and if they wanted to add the Metric Match, a 1 day event that many wanted, it would be an additional $4k they would have to cover in increased entry fee's. This is probably why the Silhouette Nationals took such a jump a few years back, as our entries started dropping off. It would be nice to see it move around, but that may not increase the numbers to what we had before. I think now we are fighting so many other disciplines and outside activities that we are going to always have this, areas with less activities will show an increase where others will show a decline and with the mind set of immediate gratification some new shooters just don't want to put the effort into it. This is one of the reasons we talked about more awards for new and lower class shooters, to keep them excited. When you give a kid or new shooter an envelope with a had written name on it and NRA Award points Vs even a Certificate they could post on the wall and show their friends that doesn't excite the new folks to come back. We proved they could do this as they have all the names in the PC already and all they would need is the certificates printed on paper and fill in the Name, Match, Award and date (all from the PC in a saved format) and do it in 2 minutes each (tops). I do it for the 4P kids I coach and they have them already made for the NRA/Winchester program and all I do is fill in the blanks. Fell on deaf ears as to much work.

Re: SB-HP 2015 Nationals info
I'd bet that moving SB around increases their participation and contributes to HP.....think about having the SB Nationals in Louisiana for instance...or in Texas...or Missouri .....folks that can't or won't travel to New Mexico or Pennsylvania will likely appear. When SB moved around both SB and HP were doing well...since the combination both have suffered....but there is no way to prove or disprove cause and effect. But gee whiz why not try letting SB move about for a couple years. You know that in 1984 at the HP nationals we had 10 relays at Raton...SB had been a month earlier somewhere like Nebraska, or Penn or just somewhere else
By the way, does anyone think that the NRA would provide a list of silhouette shooters....the have a record from book sales. A survey would produce some interesting answers
