More expensive to feed, but worth it.

Geez..I thought you guys(and gal) were my friends

JB, you probably already know this. Arizona champion woman shooter and perhaps their best HP shooter, Joy Cox , shoots a 7-08 in her hunter gun. I asked her why once..." I dont like losing rams at all" she quipped. Her standard gun is a 7x47...a necked up 6.5x47L . Her 7-08 is about toast and she may change that to a 7x47 as well. Rack up another one for the 7mm.

I am so glad you brought that up, JB. At our match two weeks ago Mr.O lost a ram with a near center shot. Now he has a tendency to red line all of his Swede ammo, so that bullet had about zip dwell time. But.......Dave B. also shoots a 6.5 Swede and he too lost a well placed shot. And to top this all off, Ed P. lost one with his .260!

Our range has a flat and level up side down railroad rail. Some of our rams are not that solid on the foot pads, but we try and hang them an inch or so off for more reliable tipping. Just a bad day at CRC for the .264"s I guess. Now I only hit four with my *****dash*****, but they all went down!!! :D (disclaimer...I had no spotta)

Mmmmmmmmm..BEER!!

So as I dont sound like I am picking on the 6.5's, Jim T. hit half or better if I remember correctly with his 6.5x47 Lapua and all fell.

Right after the match two weeks ago, Lee tossed his 100 box of ram brass into the trash. It looked too good to throw away and I asked him what was wrong with it. He said he was going back to domestic brass as this stuff was too soft. He only gets three to four reloads then the pockets are too loose to hold primers. I wonder why?

When you can see the machining marks on the bolt face transferred to the primer you may be just a bit hot.....

You are correct, John. Well flattened primers, sticky bolt lift , ejector impressions on the head are all signs of exessive pressure. The pierced one is the scariest sign though. You are dealing with upwards of 60,000 psi every time you pull the trigger. Those are right on the fringes of a full out blown primer resulting in a shot shell size primer pocket! Minor tool mark impressions are normal on the primer.

This photo is from brass fired last week. The load was 38.0 grs. RL-15....160gr. Sierra Spitzer...CCI 200 , a medium velocity load fired from the Remchester.

John, did you tell me the 6.5x55 was a low pressure cartridge relative to the 6.5x47? Does that count as a scary load?
