Switching Hands
I promised not to post any remarks ALL over SC about beating a fellow competitor in a shoot off after swapping my rifle for theirs. The biggest mistake that was made was after he agreed to that (being left handed and thinking I would be distracted by the left hand comb) was that he failed to demand that we shoot the way the stocks were conformed. So I think all shoot offs should be with the shooter shooting the opponents rifle in what ever configuration it is in...
jjp...as a side note I did have to read your post several times before figuring out what you were really asking, so I can behave myself at times.LOL

Re: Switching Hands
I am innocent...I know nothing...and BC I do not have time to be up to something, stupid enough to sign up for a calculus/algrebra class online, not having had any math since 1979....I must admit I am scrambling to remember some things. So between that and my fifth external audit in right at a year as QM with a politician boss who doesn't have a clue about any quality system and even less about the departments he has taken over or what they do, I stay busy.
So in your next shoot of BC, swap rifles with your competitor and try to beat them with their own rifle.

Re: Switching Hands
Mary, condolences on the math class! Right now I'm trying to turn the Cisco explanation of subnet masking into something comprehensible to my students. The Cisco textbook mangled it so badly that I'm confused, so now I have to do a home craniorectalectomy before repairing their damage. Some people make stuff harder than it is just to justify over-charging. Is it spring break yet?
As for whipping someone with their own rifle (let alone a south-paw), let me get back to you after mastering my own rifle.

Re: Switching Hands
Assuming you're talking about IPV4 and not IPV6, and your students get the whole binary number concept, I usually find that it's easiest to teach subnetting by putting up each of the four octets in binary and just drawing a line to separate the bits for the network address and the bits for the host address. Once they get that very simple concept and realize that's all there really is to it, it's a lot easier for them to build on it. It's been a while since I taught classes on that, but I usually end up firming up network concepts with other teams at least once every week or two. It's hard to show the value of my network architecture plans when they give me that "you're speaking a foreign language" look.

Amen to that, Jason! Technical briefings keep the basics fresh! I went online and found an article that does exactly what you describe, and the lights went on all over the classroom. It went a long way toward straightening things out! I'll never understand why some folks make this stuff so hard when others can make it so simple.

Re: Switching Hands
When in a pistol shoot off, I like to suggest to my opponent that we shoot our guns weak handed. Since I occassionaly practice shooting weak handed, it gives me an unfair advantage.

Mark,
shooting non dominat hand with pistol is a little easier than shooting non dominat hand rifle....it just doesn't feel right to balance the rifle on the 'other' hip....but is fun to mess with peoples minds when you beat them with their own firearm.

Bob,
Is your goal to become the only two-time Master Poster? Maybe Master bullshitter fits better!
I am so excited about the match this year. WE really do have a lot of really special things in store! The program just got shipped out to the printer.
