We should do drug testing...
Thanks to this sinus surgery thing, I am running on Vicodin for at least a few more days. After going stir crazy sitting around the house, I decided to do some dry fire practicing. Holy hell, I'm steady on this stuff. I wouldn't advise it for long-term marital health, as I was obviously a little too honest with my opinions of my wife's outfit today, but for silhouette shooting this stuff rules. Maybe it just makes it easy to "clear your head" when you can't keep a coherent thought in it anyway. Evidently, the amount of pain killers that it takes to make you not care that you have big splints and spacers all up in your head is the same amount it takes to relax you enough to knock out most of the wiggle of that little dot...

turn on, tune out
I think this is just wrong, and I'm totally against it. And how bad do I have to hurt myself to get some?

Umm.. I can tell you how I got to where I was bad enough off to need the surgery and get the drugs, but I'm sure there has to be less painful ways than my dirtbike-enabled acceleration into the ground at high speeds, disagreements with fellow gentlemen, and other mishaps. I've been putting it off for a long time, and the surgeon's quote, as close as I can remember it, was "At least you don't have any cancer in there, but on a scale of 1 to 10, it's uhh... really, really terrible. You must have a high pain tolerance and a strong immune system. We can fix it, though."
All in all, I've basically got scaffolding in there all the way up to above and behind my eyeballs holding all that reconstructed crap in place. That's the reason for the drugs. Even with the drugs, it feels like the day after a good scuffle and has since I woke up Friday. It will hopefully help me in everything I do, including shooting, in the long run because while he was rebuilding the system he made a few improvements. Breathing should be better for bicycling and running for sure, so I might try out those "summer biathlons" this year. A few of the guys I work with have been trying to get me into motorcycle track days and racing, too. I think you'd have to be on drugs doing 200+ sliding around corners on those things. We'll see, though. In my current state, it sounds like it might be fun to try...

Man, you're so high you could go duck hunting with a rake......Be sure to go back and read your last post AFTER you come back down......Meanwhile, how about selling me your guns for 100 dollars apiece???? If summer biathalons and motorcycle racing sound good to you, selling your guns to me for 100 bucks ought to make a lot of sense about now.......

I don't know, man.. I've been thinking about the summer biathlons for a year now. I'd be competing with those same boys that ski around with their Fortner-action rifles strapped to their backs all winter. I can't ski worth crap, but this running and shooting thing is a lot more up my nowhere Alabama-born and bred alley. If there's two things that redneck kids can do, it's run and shoot. I wouldn't mind showing them highbrow boys what a proper offhand rifle looks like. You never know, I bet I could hook at least a few of them on silhouette. As for that motorcycle racing thing, it might be the drugs pushing me farther along that line of thinking, but like I said up there before, I didn't get to where I am now by having a track record of picking the safest and least painful path...

Jason-
Yeah, it was the drugs talkin'. Chances are your hold wasn't any better, your give-a-shit meter was just off by several megafukits. Vicodin is really pretty good stuff. It'll make you ten feet tall, ten years younger, and bulletproof to boot. At least it would if you cared enough to get up and do something about it. Might want to be a little more careful around the wife, however. Sooner or later the Vicodin will run out ,but you'll still have a glass nose!

Got the first round of splints and crap out today, with another round or two to go later. Here's a shot at how big these things were, after a little cleanup, and a penny that happened to be lying on the desk in the shot for size reference.

Yeah... right at 2 3/4" long. Just laying them on my face means the damn things went from the bottom of my nose to a fair way up my forehead, with a stitch through the middle using those little holes in the bottom of the splint. No wonder that crap hurt being in there. Getting it all out wasn't exactly a load of fun, either. Where's that damn Vicodin?
