Aug 23-24 the WY rifle silhouette championship matches were held with 22 SB and 15 HP shooters. WY rifle silhouette competition started in 1974 with equipment much different than what was used this year at the Lander Valley Sportsmen's range near Lander.
[b]Cathy Winstead-Severin,[b]Joplin, MO established 4 new WY records on her way to win each of the 4 rifle divisions. She posted scores of 76 in smallbore, 63 in high power, 75 in SB hunting and 59 in HP hunting to claim the CHAMPION TROPHY in each. The course of fire was a 2 x 40 for each rifle.
Each day firing began before the sunlight reached the targets in the valley. Saturday's temp was 50 with mild overcast and Sunday only 40 with clouds leaving. The only weather concern for the shooters and target setters was the afternoon light to heavy rain, ensuing mud and lower light during HP on Sat. Steve Hawks, Loveland, CO toppled 5 turkeys in a row during the worst of the conditions and was glad the targets were black this time.
Thanks to the grat sportsmanship and helpful attitude all went well to get the 24 'relay to the line' calls completed each day. Shooters from CO, MO, MT, ND, SD, and WY attended.
Thanks to Dave Tokach, ND for compiling stats; to Tom Spriggs and Ron Reemts for ATV use; to Good Shooting, Hornady, Sierra Bullets, Laupa, Midway USA and Ronald Kamp for the hand turned wood bowls for the door prizes. If interested see the SB and HP index for award winners.
Best wishes Roger match director

Thanks to Roger for a great match. The SD crew enjoyed themselves immensely. I think that I won the best two door prizes at the match--two bug wood stained bowls from Ron Kamp, THANKS. We here from the Dakotas are coming back next year for sure. We also thought the date for this years match was about perfect. We will be able to attend ND, SD, WY, and MT state matches this year. A first for us. Thanks again WY crew. Kelly Landis
