Electronically reporting match results to NRA?
We have had quite a few threads, including the ones below, that have allowed silhouette match directors vent their frustrations over the process of reporting match results and the all-too-often undeserved "missing match results" mail from the NRA silhouette department.
Fresh start and new beginnings.... (was "I can't take it anymore")

Is silhouette dying?

Have any of you other match directors actually gotten agreement from the NRA to do match results reporting via email or heard of any new system of online match reporting similar to the online match registration process they have now? After dealing with the match registration process by mail in the past, the new online registration system is a breath of fresh air. That just left me wanting an online way of reporting match results even more than I did before. I haven't vented here as much as a couple other match directors yet, but I got pretty close to the end of my rope last year after getting mail from the NRA telling me that I had not reported match results, even after I had sent some of them in more than once.

I scan and email a reporting card to the NRA. If I get one of those letters I just throw it away. Greg doesnt keep stats anyway; and if he does he doesnt use them.

Re: Electronically reporting match results to NRA?
Jason,
I send them to a Mrs. Chin. Her email is tournpts@ nrahq.org. They have another form on their web site that you can download also. Problem with that is it's a PDF so you can't save it. What I did was fill it in then print it. Then I scanned the completed form and saved it. That gave me a record which you don't get just mailing the card. I would then email it to Mrs Chin and also to our clubs Board of directors.
Even after all that, I would still get a couple nasty-grams a year. I would simply resend the original email. I have also after repeated letters from her for the same matches called and told her I had sent them in more than once, and would not again, and that she would just have to deal with it.
I don't see why they don't have online reporting. That would solve a lot of this crap. If you noticed when you sanctioned your matches online, they assign a tournament number for each match. If you referenced that number on an online report they could set it up to pull up all the info except the number of shooters, and the accident question. SIMPLE????

Being a computer geek myself I'm kind of amazed something that simple hasn't been created yet. Thats like 2 database tables and 2 forms. Any geek could whip that up in a day. Maybe a tad longer to get it all online from scratch, but not much. And there are companies that already do this online, all it would take is the NRA subscribing to them. ONe of them actually scores the 3p targets with a scanner and assigns them to a shooter then tallies up the matches. And puts it online. What exactly do we pay all that money to the NRA for when we have matches?

To create such a simple online filing system is beyond the abilities of the NRA. It could be done in no time at all and every members scores could be recorded and tracked with great ease. Unfortunately nothing having to do with dealing with the NRA besides sending them your money is simple. They may as well be a government agency with the efficiency and lack of any accountability they seem to have. Truly sad that they are so lacking in such simple technical know how to make this happen. They sure know how to spam my email though!

I don't know what you're talking about. Greg Connor called me yesterday from the rotary phone in his office to respond to an email I sent him 6 weeks ago that the Chin printed for him so he could read it. That sounds pretty high-tech to me!

Hey I might consider offering to make a website for posting of all scores from all events. But it is going to cost them a lifetime NRA membership and the promise of never spamming my email or snail mail again. Oh and they would have to come up with my Grand Slam pins first as well. I will telegraph Greg at the wire station tomorrow to see what he thinks!

Re: Electronically reporting match results to NRA?
I have been reporting the Woolmarket matches via e-mail for at least four years. I started when I received an e-mail telling me I had not reported a match. At that time, I was still reporting via snail mail. I figured that if they could notify me of a missed match report (which I had sent by regular mail) by e-mail then I should be able to report my match results the same way. I called the Silo Division and was told that I could report by e-mail as long as ALL the information on the NRA supplied report card was included in the e-mail.
I put all required match information in the body of the e-mail and also attach same as a word document. I keep copies of the sent email. On two occaisions since I started doing this I have received non reporting nasty grams. I simply resent the original e-mail for that particular match (without telling them to pull until hearing a loud pop). Must've worked because I didn't hear anything else.

I'm not sure second hand smoke signals would be safe. Carrier pigeons maybe?Innocent wrote:Sorry Dee that technology went away recently.... Guess you'll have to revert to smoke signals.I will telegraph Greg at the wire station tomorrow to see what he thinks!![]()

Particularly considering that the NRA would be getting free data entry clerks out of the deal.OldRanger wrote:Being a computer geek myself I'm kind of amazed something that simple hasn't been created yet. Re: Electronically reporting match results to NRA?
2012 was a bad year saying I did not report a couple tournaments or no jury card received. 2013, I did not hear a word from them. Since I always have to MAIL a check or money order after each tournament, I also enclose the match results as well as highlight the Match Winners names on the spread sheet. I like to keep things together and since I have to mail a check, I put all the other papers with it. The Match Winners are mailed a NRA Match Winners Certificate with their name on it ..etc. I seem to have patience with the NRA and take it with a grain of salt or for what it is worth.....like our Gov't.
This year, I might fill out the form for Shooting Sports USA and give some details of a tournament or our state championship. Give a plug for our club and the sport.....etc. Submit it to Shooting Sports USA and see what happens.
Jon
Forgot: In 2012 having problem not reporting, I just e-mailed them the canceled check/money order, front and back, which references the tournament date too. Enuf said.
