1827 Fortner for Silhouette?

anyone have experience converting an 1827 Fortner for silhouette? I know it is not the norm, but have been fascinated with the idea of a straight pull repeater. Can I assume the front sight removes (easily) from the barrel? Any idea of weight for a barreled action?

I know several guys that have shot that rifle for silhouette. I'm not sure I understand the advantage of using it but it does the job.

Had one and so did my friend in the left hand version, lovely rifle. Like my new rifle but still sorry I sold mine even if it would have been a safe queen. Had the action mounted into a McMillan Std Silhouette stock.

Because it is the only left handed repeater action with the 5018 trigger, until I converted a 54MS to an Ms-R. I still prefer the Fortner. Unfortunately you have to re-barrel it for Hunter. That causes hate mail from the biathlon crowd. I am no longer welcome in Colorado. That gun is my fav by a HUGE margin and it is Evelio's least fav by the same.

I'm a lefty and you hit the nail on the head -- a LH repeater. there is a LH 1827 for sale on targettalk.org for big $$, but it with re-barreling and getting it fit to a stock I'd have so much money tied up in it that it doesn't make a lot of sense.

If I were rich I'd do this too. But instead I'm settling for a right handed 1712 in a left handed stock. Should get me through, but that fortner makes me drool!

Ranger: that is what I am currently shooting -- a RH 1710 in a LH Wooster stock. Very functional, and taking it off my shoulder between shots gives me a moment to collect myself and breath, and re-establish my pre-shot routine.

Mine is currently in a slight limbo. It came in with no safety, which is being rectified. For now I just shoot 40's.....in my dreams!

p.s. if anyone has a left handed fortner rifle just getting in their way and they were about to throw it out to make room, shoot me a PM, I'd be glad to make room in the safe for a free gun!
