Wa state smallbore match

So due to foul weather our state small bore match was held today. In one day rather than two.

Yes pilgrims. We shot 240 shots for score in one day rather than two.

Dennis Martinen and Keith Cairns shared honors for standard and hunter with an honorable mention for Bruce Gallagher for taking first in AAA for the first time.

Personally I've never shot in crazier conditions. The wind was blowing left to right at chickens and right to left on turkey's. Did I mention rain? Yeah we got a couple of inches worth at least during said 240 shots.

Bigfoot, that is a lot of shooting for one day! How many shooters did you have at the match? Did you guys have target setters? Did you shoot 10 shot strings or 15 shot strings?

Due to the conditions, I think we had just under 20. Yes, we had target setters. We had four high school guys that really hustled when setting targets, despite the fact that they were getting drenched and the win kept blowing the targets down. We shot 10-shot strings, just like in Conard Cup.

The conditions there were the worst that I've ever tried to shoot a match in. It was a crazy day of shooting for sure, and the end of the day summarized the whole event pretty well. I thought I had the wind reading nailed by the end of the last match. In the shootoff with Keith for smallbore hunter state champ, I even waited for a lull in the wind to take a shot. Unfortunately, I chose the exact time that win switched directions and breaking slightly left of center of that turkey because the wind had been pushing left-to-right most of the day meant that the wind pushed my shot just barely left. Keith waited until the last two seconds to break his shot and made contact, winning state champ. I'm really glad we packed it all into one day. I think the next day was even worse.

Bad as the conditions were, nobody told me and so I wasn't too bothered! And, as bad as the conditions were, it was a joy to be there, although my scores started to slip late in the game.... too many shots for record, and hard on an old man.....
