Do you guys mark your scopes for different yardages

When shooting at various yardages and want to be able to make quick scope adjustments,
what's the mechanics of going about this? Do you have notes in a book or do you make
markings directly on your scope. The three places that make sense: magnification ring,
AO distance, and elevation knob.

I just memorized the elevation 0-2-5-9 moa for me. I put triangular pieces of tape on my ao ring pointing down to the focus for chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams.

Some folks just put a full piece of tape around the ao and mark with a pen where the adjustments are.

Mine and most are almost the same. 0-2-5-8.5, however, I just put a piece of blue painters tape on the stock for any notes. Always have it with me and very easy to change with no damage to the stock.

One out of 10 scopes (inexpensive and VERY expensive) I have ever had did the AO and actual parralax free adjustments match the yardage markings on the AO ring.

"most" people dope their AO rings with the correct adjustments.

Same for elevation. If you can remember your adjustments then great but "most" people have the dope written on tape or print it out and have it taped to their scope/rifle.

I have to write everything down because I'm not bright enough to remember....

A silver sharpie works good especially on matte scopes, I don't take the time to write nice on mine so there not very attractive but I don't think anyone notices or cares! including me!

Elevation changes is marked in scope settings (numbers) and number of "clicks" on a piece of tape on my score card clip board. Parallax settings are marked on blue tape on the scope.

I have my "dope" book for various range conditions, but keep a piece of blue tape (as previously mentioned) on the butt of my rifle with my adjustments for each distance. I also have sharpie marks on my objective for the distances, and little vinyl animals at each approximate adjustment on the turret for a quick gut check: when I am at a distance I should see that animal on the turret. I also learned years back to change the scope to the next animal as soon as I am done with the current one.

I log my elevations different than most others. Instead of adjusting the turret to read Zero for Chickens then adding MOA as I progress down the range mine is set like a micrometer 0/0/0 is all the way down the barrel, in line with the first vertical division, 'O" on the turret & 0 1/4 minutes. Proper Chicken Pig Turkey Ram zero is compared to my notebook and pasted on the scope card, read as if reading a micrometer.

Couple of reasons, main is you can't make a complete turn mistake coming off Rams going to Chickens, example on my Leopold 2/7/2 is always the correct Chicken setting no matter how the scope was set last, other is that's the way Micrometers are read and am used to them. Old Externals same way Unertl or Lyman STS you read the micrometer refer to your notebook, the turrets can't be re set for any particular distance.

Other thing is only clicks I pay attention to are small ones couple up or down left or right to fine tune point of impact when shooting. Never count clicks up or down when changing critters, too easy to make a mistake. Best use of a click is when you can't come out of postion to read the setting. Sounds complicated but for me is as foolproof as It can be.

My elevations are on tape affixed to top of scope. I have taped arrows for my specific distances on my AO scope. Click turn is 1/4" not 1/8" like many. I tend to have mental lapses....so memorization will not work for me.
