More expensive to feed, but worth it.

WA State HP Results?

Post by Jason »

Has anyone got results from the WA state highpower match? I couldn't shoot it because I had to run my club's smallbore matches and had already asked someone else to run our April matches so I could shoot the Conard Cup. Was the weather as beautiful there as it was for our matches? I sure did miss getting to shoot that match. I hope it's not on the third weekend of the month next year.

Jason,

We cancel our local monthly smallbore match for the HP state match Zwolle, La every year. In fact, the locak matches give way to any state or regional championships that are going on in-state. Cancel that thing and go shoot!!!!

We only have nine monthly matches a year due to taking June off for club functions and September and October off for hosting hunter sight-in for the public. I didn't want to cut that down to eight just because I want to go shoot the highpower state match, especially since it would mean that we'd miss three months in a row. If the Conard Cup match hadn't conflicted with our monthly match in April, I wouldn't have needed to ask a fellow match director to run our monthly match then. I just didn't feel right asking him to run two out of nine matches so I could go shoot. I chose to shoot the Conard Cup so I would get to see many friends from around the country and am fine with the choice.

To be honest, until just now I didn't remember that the highpower state match is the third weekend of August every year. Since this is my first year running our smallbore matches, my mindset when it comes to match scheduling is different. This also happens to be the first (and only?) year that I know that the Conard Cup wasn't the last weekend of April. If that had not happened, I would have asked for the substitute for this month's match and shot the state highpower match. Assuming next year's Conard Cup match will be on its normal weekend, this shouldn't be a problem in the future. We did indeed have good matches yesterday, but had a little less than half our usual number of shooters missing due to the state highpower match. Now that I've learned a bit more as a match director, I'll be able to plan things better for next year and will be able to discuss the August match with my substitute match director, who happens to be who I took over from when he switched to cowboy silhouette match director due to the previous cowboy silhouette match director retiring from the matches.

Now... after all of that, does anyone have results from the HP state match? :))

I knew I should have taken a pic of the score board dammit!

Weather was overcast on Saturday (perfect for shooting) and like clockwork the sun came out just as we finished up. Almost the same on Sunday with the sun peaking out a couple of times but nothing like last year when we had it coming in our eye's and messing up things in the afternoon.

Eric and Keith shot off for match winner for hunter (I believe, I was pretty tired) with Eric winning standard.

Byron shot a 27 on day 2 for hunter to move him up to AAA and win first AA.

I moved up to AA in standard gun (already there for hunter after the Iron Man) and pulled the A standard out of my butt by shooting a 21 on Saturday even though Sunday was super tough for some reason. - Jason you have to explain to me how I can shoot 1 turkey and then hit (and yes, knock down) 8 rams.

Sorry I haven't got more specifics but I think Gary might be sending out the numbers for the rest of the field soon. We missed ya bud!
