I love this game....

Post by OnaginOffagin »

When I was a kid, back when the earth was cooling, my dad taught me to shoot with a Benjamin multi-pump air rifle. He would line up soup, pop, and beer cans (mostly beer cans) on the top rail of our backyard fence and we'd blast away. That Benjamin was my first gun, and it was beautiful.... and versatile. I had all the purchasing power of a gnat and we lived in a village without a store, so when I ran out of pellets, I was out.....but then I discovered that stick kitchen matches worked fairly well in the little gun, with the added benefit of exploding when hitting something hard! Pyrotechnics. At seven years of age.....

After awhile, I would once in awhile, on purpose, knock one of those beer cans off that fence. I remember to this day screaming with joy, and almost dancing with a sense of accomplishment. I'm no different today....

Yesterday, at PeEll, I had a personal best on Turkeys, first run of the day.... I could barely keep from screaming with joy, and almost dancing with a sense of accomplishment. Some people might say I never grew up; but I would say that I always knew what was important in life, and there is "absolutely nothing so much worth doing as knocking targets off a rail!" (My apologies to PoGo!).

The little Benjamin is long, long gone now (boy, don't I wish I had it back!), and today I shoot a sleek, incredibly accurate Annie 1700... but the feeling is the same, totally the same....although I have to say my new Annie can't shoot kitchen matches worth a damn!
