I happened back into the idea of 'target' shooting when I bought a CZ 452. Silhoutte looks fun. I also have a Ruger/Kidd 10/22 that I just put together, and seems the business so far. There is a club near me with regular meets. OK I know 'go and see what others are using'. But...what scope would be a good place to start? I kind of prefer fixed as opposed to variable. I'd like to make the 'hunter' class. Now I've never shot anything more than 10x, and hunt with either a fixed 4x, or a 2-7x. I don't wan't to upgrade in a year, I'd rather spend a bit more up front. But, I can't imagine holding a 36x study. I have used Luepold, and Weaver scopes happily, a Kahles joylfully, and a truglow, and a bsa that I litteraly gave away to some sadsack . Anyways a lot of scopes out there, I'm leaning towards the Leupold 6.5-20EFR, but if anyone has a better idea, I'd love to heat it. Sorry for the longwinded first post. Been reading lots of scope reviews and am a bit dizzy.

Nick the most popular scope in silhouette is the Leupold 6.5 -20X EFR. You won't go wrong with it

Lot about other scopes on forums but go to a match and Leopold's are the most often seen on good shooters rifles. 2nd and less expensive would be the new Weavers. Other thing about a 6.5x20 is they are instant sellers if you ever want to get rid of one.

Nick, great choice in scopes for all of the above mentioned reasons. I you are really set on a fixed power ( I suggest you really rethink this for silhouette) I would go with an old Weaver T16 (not many around) or a Leupy 12 or 24. THere are some Weaver T10's floating around but they are truly a little on the low power side if you intend to shoot and not change in a year or so. I have to T 10's and use them on my loaner rifles for beginners.
Welocme to this addictive sport and go with your thought, as it can always be cashed in quickly if you don't like it.

Thank's, seems like the Leupold 6.5 -20 is the way to go, even if it means another week of Top Ramen. Guess I'd better get used to ramen noodles if I want to play your game.

I know of a Weaver T-24 that will come up for sale this weekend, 375.00 shipped, like new with small dot.

Seriously, I have both of the leading scopes - an adjustable Leupy 6.5-20 (that was boosted by Premier back in the good-ol-days) and a Weaver T-24. I'll have to agree COMPLETELY with Innocent - DON'T start with a fixed it does create some limits for you. If you can see your way to get the Leupy, save up for it. It will last you forever, great quality glass (sight picture), reliable adjustments in elevation/windage AND, if for some reason that's beyond me, you don't continue on with this sport you can sell it for 80-90% of what you paid for it (except that special deal you'll give me for this great advice)!!!

I like my fixed 24x, but I started with an adjustable to accomodate my beginner's wobble, and getting on the correct bank of targets, and on and on . . .
