Current Match Calendar

Post by brettnchrism »

Hello,

I am new here and want to try to have some fun shooting silhouettes. In the process of getting a gun/scope together and reloading equipment. I gave up the fast paced IPSC handgun shooting, as fun as it is my body doesn't move that well anymore, so now I am interested in rifle shooting. Sounds like good people and alot of fun with a bit of travel to meet new people see new places.

I am having trouble finding a hub of the upcomming shoots or a general match calendar. Is there a specific place I can refer to find the upcomming matches?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Brett,

Where are you located? The primary season for the travel matches has passed for the year only the southern states running year round local matches it seems. Northerners shoot that 50' indoor stuff and paper postal matches.

As for events the big ones will be discussed on this forum and I have a website for the Southern matches with a calender. Still waiting on dates for some but the only for sure to try to make would be the 1st Weekend in June next year in Winnsboro if you you shoot smallbore at all.

Besides that the NRA has a listing of matches in their Shooting Sports mag online you can get dates and contact info for different matches but nothing specific really.

Thanks Dee, I found your site and registered.

I live in Missouri near springfield there are a few matches around here but I am not opposed to traveling. Being retired that is what the wife and I do mostly except for some fishing and hunting around here. I spend time in the Tampa Fl area where my brother and uncle live so I would like to find some matches down there.

Thanks for the info. Right now Im looking into High Power Hunting but may also take up the rim fire also. I have a 150 yard range in my backyard to practice maybe I can get the wife to shoot also but that may be a stretch.

Brett, High Power is a little tougher in the SE than smallbore. Zwolle LA, and Milroy and Ridgway PA, then you go into either Texas/CO/AZ or St Louis for HP.
The current plans for smallbore in Florida besides the monthly matches in Orlando area (Central Florida R &P and Chuluota Sportsmans club) in second Sat second Sundays of the month, are in Jacksonville and Hollywood. Jax is planning on Florida states for March 24th and 25th, not fully through with the approval process on the NRA yet so more to come on that.
Georgia states in Brunswick (a great match) are tenatively planned for the April 21/22, Conard Bernhart Cup (CBC or PeEll are two other names) should be April 28/29. The Southern Nationals May31-June 3 are all matches worth attending.
THat gets into the first part of the year, Texas states, CO states, AZ states are all good matches, don't have firm dates on them yet but I'm sure they will show up soon.

you know.... it would be a helpful resource to have a thread/topic along the lines of the map of ranges....maybe just have it by month or date, as a recently suckered...i mean appointed match director, i would love to post dates and classes etc for all my rowdy SC freinds.of course a calendar would be great to, but if we just had a thread we could post our own info with little inpact to the moderators.

that being said, lots of threads get convoulted/hijacked so it should be just for match notices, results could also be attached postmortem as a reply to the notice.

Thanks Mary for the info I will watch for the match dates on the forum. I think Dave has what I was looking for a calendar of all the events by month then I could schedule my trips. St Louis is only 4 hours away and most other shoots look like a day drive from where I live minus Florida which takes me two days to get down there.

Tulsa Red Castle Gun Club has a monthly match spring to fall, not sure on the dates as there was talk of changing it from the first Sat of the Month. Mark and the guys there are great we drive from Springfield 2 to 3 times a summer to make some of their matches. There is a whisper of trying to get an approved match at our club near Springfield but will have to see if that happens, this next year or not. Fort Smith has two monthly matches, and you might get to watch Mallory shoot.
