What do ya look at?
Trying to get my head around this-
So when shooting with a scope, you focus on the target, not the cross hairs? 180d from open sights- Having shot NRA HP for years, I have a subconcisous post burned into my brain, looking for a grey blob to set it under. It is a bit challanging to watch that dot dance,
So I should try the target and not the sight as a focus point?
thanks

Re: What do ya look at?
chuck, try both and see what works for you. I tend to focus on the scope dot in an area of the animal (right/left, up/down) most of the time. There are time that my concentration requires that I work the animal and a specific spot on that animal, as the environmental conditions are bad. That is where my 1 minute scope dot comes in handy....ofcourse the drawback to that is that if I am trying to shoot groups a 1 minute dot covers a lot of shots at 100meters.

I tend to focus on the cross hairs and when the blurr of the target goes streaking past a break the shot and hope for the best.

I try to focus on the scope when I first shoulder the rifle and fine tune my NPA making sure it is not all out of whack. Then I switch my focus to the animal and the spot I am trying to break a shot on. If I did everything right before switching over my dot should be in the general area of the animal already. Then I can try to relax into the animal and breath into the spot to take the shot or just quick break the shot it the dot is where I am wanting it.
The animal never moves so trying to chase it down with focus on the dot alone seems counterproductive. It is better to look through the scope and dot to the target and allow your natural vision to guide the dot to the spot you want to shoot at. This goes hand in hand with not having to think about pulling the trigger and having it just happen when the dot it where the mind wants to see the dot before the finger is activated. We all know what it is like to get lost in looking a great hold as the dot just sits there and we forget to pull the trigger especially if you just toss the rifle up and it is dead nuts on right away. We aren't expecting it to be so we anticipate having to fine tune each shot a little more and pulling the trigger isn't in that part of our typical shot sequence routine.
So let your eye become one with the scope dot and then use the force to focus on the animal and locate the dot which is now your eye to locate and pinpoint the spot. Then watch it fall. Simple really
