Somedays its just your day

Post by jbolt »

Thursday night was our club air rifle match. I was pretty tired from work and almost didn't go but decided I would probably feel better if I went. I've had my TX200 for about 6 months and this was my 5th match. I had qualified in B class and have been inconsistent shooting between B and AA scores. Being tired I decided to use the match to work on my shot plan and not worry about scores or the clock. My warm up was short, only shooting enough rounds to confirm my scope settings. I started out well with 7 of 15 turkeys. Very good score for me. Rams started out rough missing the first 3. The breaks felt good but I couldn't see where the misses were going. On the 4th shot I heard the pellet hit the backstop and figured another miss but as I lowered the gun the ram SLOWLY fell backward, and I mean slowly. I must have just grazed the top of the foot enough to push the ram back enough to barely fall. Now thinking I was shooting low I held higher on the 5th ram and promptly shot right over the back. Huh??? It then dawned on me I hadn't been pulling in the rifle on the previous 4 shots (part of my shot plan) which causes me to drop the shot but I had on this one. DOH! From there I picked up 7 of the next 10 for a total of 8 rams. I’m starting to feel pretty good now and immeadiately get inside my own head thinking about getting some 5 pins on chickens and pigs. 1st bank 3 chickens, 2nd bank 3 chickens again. Grrrrr! So I start to get real serious cause I'm going to get the last 5. 1st shot HIT! Now we're talkin. Now I'm fired up for the second shot. Part of my shot plan is shouldering the rifle and then purposely setting my elbow to my hip, take a deep breath to lock my elbow, release breath bringing the sight down on the animal to set my position and then taking up the first stage of the trigger in preparation for the shot. Well in my new found determination my shot plan went right out the window. The 2nd shot went something like this. All in one motion, I shouldered the rifle, took up the first stage of the trigger, took a deep breath, brought the rifle down over the animal while purposely setting my elbow and promptly pulled the trigger, guaranteeing a sure miss. WHACK! the 2nd chicken flew off the stand.  No friggin way! I never even saw it in the scope =)) =)) . Pulling myself back together I managed the last 3 chickens to get my 5 pin. Mission accomplished and 11 chickens down, a personal best. After the miracle chicken shot I don’t remember much about the pigs other than I shot 10 of 15. Total for the night, 36/60. My first AAA score! and another 5 pin. It was a very good night. :D
