1st Silhouette match

Last month I completed my first Smallbore Silhouette match at Sand Springs Oklahoma's Red Castle Gun Club. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and I had a GREAT time. I have Purchased a KIMBER hunter silhouette and it has a 4-12 leupold on top. I'm thinking of going up in power to a 6x18aot Leupold. Does anyone have experience with this scope? Do the national champions post on this web sight to give us beginners words of wisdom on equipment purchases? I don't mind someone tooting their own horn. If your a champion please pass on any equipment knowledge/ideas so I don't have to have to hear "That's never gonna work", "You might wanna save your money and buy a ...etc.etc.

Not a national champion yet but as they say "be there, done that" think you would be best serverd with a leupold 6.5-20x40 EFR with a .63 dot that chicken george has done for us. He may have some more ideas that may work also.

Second that. You want the Leupold Dot reticle (not the same thing as their target dot) in a VX-III target scope. You'll be very glad you did. And I'm definitely not a champion anything.

Hi Glen. I'm using two of the VX-II 6-18 AOT scopes that you asked about. I have the fine/duplex reticle on my smallbore rifle, and the target dot on the high power. Optically, they are excellent - clean/crisp/bright. The adjustments repeat perfectly as far as I can tell. Of the two reticles, I like the target dot the least. Under the right light, the crosshairs and dot vanish. It sucks to have the clock ticking down and not be able to find the crosshairs in the scope. I expect the dot in George's custom reticle is aimed at fixing this exact problem.

I'm not sure what you get for the extra $150 with the VX-III that is useful for shooting high contrast targets in broad daylight. I know it has the "Extended Focal Range", but mine focus down to chickens just fine. Still, I looked very closely at that scope. In my case with the Anschutz 1712 and factory wood stock, I had to go to aluminum rings to make weight in hunter class. With the extra 3 ounces of the VX-III, I would have been over. That simplified the choice for me.

Most important thing relevant to your equipment, since you are shooting out of Tulsa Red Castle, is to keep your eye on Ed Kessey and his shooting talisman, Mojo. They will turn your scope adjustment knobs in a heartbeat.......And if you want to broaden your shooting horizons the Old Fort Gun Club at Fort Smith, Arkansas shoots their final match of the year this coming Saturday. All apex predators have musk glands so we can mark our territory, warns off the lesser males, makes us naturally rank......Even more so in Louisiana in June in 100 degree temps and 100% humidity......

I knew it was a natural process, I just figured you ate sumpin that did'nt agree with you, thats what mine usually is. It's kinda cool here today think I'll russle up some red beans and cornbread, be a big hit later on tonight.
