Another newbie scope ?? 6.5 x20 EFR

Another newbie scope ?? If your using a Leupold 6.5 -20 x 40 EFR scope...What are the basic 1/4 clicks to get to each range if zeroed at 40 meters ??
I really don't want it in munutes but rather how many clicks on the turret to get to each range. Does that make sense? I realize different ammo will change this...I just want to get close while getting setup without waisting time and ammo. I will then be able to fine tune from there with the ammo I choose to be the best in my particular rifle.

Assuming target ammo, this should get you in the ballpark:

Chicken - 0. MOA
Pig - +6 clicks. 1.5
Turkeys - +12. 4.5
rams - +12. 7.5

I recommend setting the elevation turret to 0 at chickens, then read the dial. Counting will just get you lost, especially if you start your match on turkeys or pigs

Yep, with both Sk Standard + and with RWS Target Rifle I am generally at:

Chickens = 0
Pigs = + 8 clicks from ckn (2 minutes)
Turkeys = + 16 clicks from ckn (4 minutes)
Rams = + 28 clicks from ckn (7 minutes)

MIne in FLorida with Eley ammo are typically
Chickens 0
Pigs (at 60 meters) 2 (8 clicks)
Pigs (at 50 meters) 1 to 1.5 (4 to 6 clicks)
Turkeys 5 (20 clicks)
Rams 8 to 8.5 (32 clicks from Chicks)

Other ranges out of state or at much higher elevations may variy as much as 4 clicks in either direction at each of the longer animals. Also using Wolf or SK ammo add at least 4 clicks to Turkeys and 8 clicks to Rams.

And yes we do have several ranges in Florida that share with pistol ranges so we have reduced pigs.

My rule of thumb with match ammo is,

Chickens 0 Pigs 2 Turkeys 4 1/2 Rams 8 1/2 all in MOA.

In fact few ranges are measued exactly and all rifles & scopes are a bit different. Best log read and think in MOA

Wolf ammo usally runs 0, 2, 5, 8 out of my CZ silhouette. Just like mary though, in Florida.

what does it matter weather it is in clicks or minute. If it is in minute and you want to know the clicks with 1/4 inch clicks you divide the minutes by four.

yes mary i know thats why engineers give me drawings in millimeter because they know i have micrometer that read in milimeters. NOT i have to convert them to english so i can make the part right.

22's forever..sounds like you are learning the clicking process! Nothing like counting the clicks...oh I don't count, I just look at the numbers but then I may start counting, easier than getting out the glasses to read the numbers.

kmiller, having to take data in all formats I have learned to think in one or the other, I quit trying to convert, it is easier especially when dealing with temperature. Although for those that do have to convert Josh Madison has a great free download conversion table for many things from pressures, to length.

If you think in MOA and do everything in MOA less chance of error. There is a place for reading the dial and another place for counting clicks.

How big is the Smallbore ram, 2 1/2 MOA high 4 MOA wide, Miss just over his back sighting in take 2 Minutes off the sight and watch the next strike. Clicks are fine for small adjustments, If you see some consistent wind running left to right during a string put 2 clicks left on the sight withoug coming out of position and see what the call and spot says next shot. Another shooter says there is 1 Minute of drop on his sights due to cold weather you know what to do. Click up 4 clicks. MOA is a natural measurement 1/360 of a circle. Been used for years by navagators and surveyors

Mills are the same principal just different. I always thought they were pushed on the US by Nato, same guys that forced 9mm's on the Military and made you put another set of wrenches in your tool box.
