Scope base and ring ?? (Newbie)

Scope base and ring ?? I just picked a Kimber HS this week. It has no bases or rings. I'm going to put a Leupold 6.5x20x40 scope on it.I haven't shot a sigle round thru it yet, nor have I ever shot a match, But I'm ready to be bitten by this sport. What recommendations do you suggest for bases and rings?? I have read Wanye Merrier no longer produces these. A friend suggested these but once I researched them and no more.

Don't forget to shim the back mounts. 2 thickness of a beer can works well.

I have a Kimber HS with Leupold STD bases and STD high rings. It started with medium rings, but the comb is too high for medium rings even though the objective clears easily. Thre is no problem making weight for hunter class.
The Leupold STD rings are also very solid and look appropriate for the rifle.

the H/S I had I used dovetail mounts on it ....I think? Getting old memory fading...does leuold have bolt on mounts?

Also not sure what size screws are in it? I know there are two different sizes in the Kimbers...some of the 84's are the same...just don't what yr my gun is or when the cross over was. What is the od of the 2 different screws (6-48, 8-40)? Mine are .134" the filler plugs are what I measured.
I do not have any dovetail at all...just round with holes tapped.

I can measure the screws for my Kimber HS. I just used the Leupold STD base and the screws that came with it fit perfectly.
The Kimber HS is drilled and tapped for scope bases but is not dovetailed. I would presume that you can use a fitment chart from Weaver, Burris, Leupold etc. to find out which of their bases will fit the HS.
I think the Oregon Kimbers used different screw sizes than the NY Kimbers.
By the way, your Kimber HS gives nothing to an Anschutz 1712. I have both.

Finprof, yes Kimber did use different size screws and thread pitch for different years...so just measure them.

My Kimber HS uses 8-40 screws on the bases. I did a little research and found that Kimber changed screw sizes in 2003 from 6-48 to 8-40. You might have to measure to find out the screw size but they are probably the post-2003. I have a factory letter stating that mine is the second-from-last HS built, so I know mine is post-2003. I bought mine new from a Kimber dealer and bought the Leupold bases at the same time. He told me that the Kimber-labelled bases are basically the same as the Leupold but cost twice as much. I have seen this before...at least got to drink a beer to do the job !! But what about the Burris inserts. Which ones do you use for a Leupold 6.5x20 (5,10,20)? Of those of you who use them...do you offset...zero in front, 10 or 20 in back, or a different combination ?

The Burris Signature are an excellent choice. I wish they were made in aluminum so they'd be a tad lighter. The synthetic rings hold well and leave no marks. Good shooting to you R
