Kimber HS Weight

I have a Kimber HS with Leupold steel rings and bases with a Leupold 6-18 mounted on it. I would like a higher power scope but higher power means more weight or $$$. I wanted to know what kind of base/ring options I could change and if that will make enough difference to mount a heavier scope??? What kind of scope could I put on it that would be in a lighter weight (mine currently weights 15.8 oz)?

What Kimber HS configurations do some of you have that make weight in hunter class???

Kevin, Leupold variable scopes are heavier than the 25X and 30X fixed power ones Leupold makes by a few oz so you would not have too much trouble in my opinion if you wanted to get a more powerful scope. Check with Chicken George for prices or look on the classifieds here, I see used Leupold 24X BR scopes with silhouette dots all the time for less than $500

I recall the Sightron Silhouette model is about 17.5 oz. It's the most versatile scope out there and can be used for HP, smallbore, air rifle, and air pistol. The glass is superb, comparable to the VX-III line.

But if you can snag an older Leupold 24x BR with 1/2' dot for less than $500, do it. I've looked thru the newer Leupold 25x silhouette models and don't care for the view. YMMV

A few years ago I was concerned about weight on standard rifle, while using a Leupold 6.5 - 20 EFR (specs on Midway IIRC were 17-19 oz) so I bought a 24X said to be 16 oz. When I weighed both they were 16 oz give or take a 0.1 oz. When I checked with Leupold they said the EFR was 16 oz. I believe the new fixed 25 & 30 are lighter

I have a Kimber HS with the Sightron silhouette scope in Leupold STD rings and bases. It is under weight by 4 oz. It has been weighed at the Southern Nationals and PA states. I really like the scope.

I shoot with mine at 50 feet for NRA Light Rifle matches indoors during the winter. It will get down to 30 feet.

you might check with talley mfg. and see if they make their ultralite rings for kimber rimfire that would save you about 5oz. over steel bases and rings .

Finprof, what model of sigtron are you using, and what power that focuses down to 50ft.? Also is it dot and what size? thanks
