Marlin 39 front sight.

I have bought an older, no cross-bolt safety, marlin 39. It has a tang sight and a Lyman LOW globe front sight. At the tang sight's lowest setting the gun shoots about 8 inches high at 50 yards. Which front sight height should I need to purchase? Should I get a Williams clamp on globe sight? Will the Williams sight clamp onto the front ramp, or will I need to get some kind of insert that goes in the ramp dovetail to clamp the globe sight onto?

glen ring, how is the Lyman front sight attached to the barrel? If it using the dove tail on ramp where the factory bead goes just get the next height Lyman 17A and replace the one you have that its too low. Optic Planet has the best prices on those sights but they are out of them at this moment (I am waiting for two of them that I ordered this week). Any other front sight that clamps on needs a base and you may need to drill and tap the barrel to accept it. I am not familiar with the Williams front sight that you mentioned in your post but USA Midway has them and the bases also. Measure the radius on your rifle before ordering the base.

Your other option is to have someone cut a dove tail directly into the barrel to accept front globe sight like the Lyman 17A and Redfield Mod 65 with integral male dove tails. I had that done to a couple of Marlin 39A rifles.
