Ready to upgrade

Ok So Ive spent a year and a half with a cheap scope. Started shooting with what Ive got and ready to up grade. Is a Leupold 6.5-20 efr that much better than the comperable Weaver, or Sightron. Been looking at all of them, have the money and cant decide. Looked thru both the Weaver and Leupold but havent found a Sightron to look thru. I understand all three are good BUT?

What are you upgrading from? Personally I would never buy a Weaver sight unseen since I have come across so much variance in glass quality it is scary but good ones do exist. How much weight do you have to play with, are you up against the max right now?

I shoot Bushnell 4200's 6-24x with a 1/4" dot and the glass is second to only the highest $ glass IMO and the tracking is rock solid. Not knowing what you shoot now it would appear you want a variable mag scope and having shot at 24x for awhile now I am wanting more mag and use a booster lens on the scope to get around 30x and still want more. The 6.5x20x Leupold is a fine scope but it does stop at 20x and you may want more mag than that soon enough so take that into consideration. I'm now looking at getting some 8-32x Bushnells and having a dot installed then add the booster and I can get up to 40x or down to 8x.

Can't speak to Sightrons but I have never heard anything about them that would turn me away only good things and they have a rebate right now from what I hear.

I have Sightron's and am very happy with them. The only complaint is the knob increments are lame. Your settings will be line 0, 3, 6 & 0.5 which means you have to be very careful to not have your chicken and ram settings confused.

I typically use a Weaver which I have had no issues with.

90% of the rifles at any given match are a Leupold so that has to tell us something.

The scopes you mention are all very good. Weaver is known to have the best tracking and decient glass.. Leupold efr, very well built and with a 10 meter close focus, good for dry firing or air gun, good tracking, good glass, good warranty. Sightron the newbe is having good reviews in the bench rest circuit.

Dee, I curently am shooting a Remington model 5 which isnt the best gun but knocks them down from the bench every time. i have a cabelas 6-18 tactical rimfire on it now. it seems to be losing its tracking on the rams. No consistancy out that far now, at first it did fine. the gun is able to group 10 in a 1.5" and less. My problem has been the rams and not hitting any last match cause my scope wasnt there. hit 9 chickens 8 pigs 3 turkeys. Need something much more consistant. I do like the option of the sightron and weaver variables that go to 24x. my wife shots some times as well as kids and so the variable works best for them as well. My wife doesnt want to get her own gun, just to shot mine when she comes, and has trouble finding the animals at higher x factors.

I have an EFR and the Sightron has more to offer. The glass is just as good. Had a Weaver T24 and didn't like the view. Weaver V16 is good, just needs more power.

V storm, scope choices are a personal preference. Be sure to get one with 1/4" clicks, you will avoid the problem of which "0" are you on. Weaver has a reputation of better mechanical tracking but tend to be heavier and not as bright of glass as what I like now. In my youth Leupold was too bright, so it truly does vary based on your eyes. Sightron has great glass, been around for relatively short time (compared to the other two) but they do have a lifetime warranty, that I have seen them honor. One of the directors of the company has shot silhouette so he is aware of our preferences.
Aside form the 1/4 minute clicks, try different reticles, I prefer larger dot on straight crosshairs. I do recommend going variable where you can, as many times the time of day and environment can make you wish you could adjust power.
Anywhere from 6 to 32 power is a good range to get it in. Much over 32, and you need to be a good shooter to hold it, and most newbies prefer lighter power 6 to 9 range, and there is always someone that will need to shoot your rifle someday!!

They are all close, with in my opinion, sightron at the top, and weaver at the bottom. I had them all, and sightron has the best features and clarity. It does not hurt that it has a moderately low price.
