Practice Routine
As I get ready for some real matchs, looking for what may give me better quality practice.
I can add an air rilfe to practice at home
or
pick up a case of ammo
I only have a bout a 15 min trip to the range. I think the idea od an air rifle is a good one, but is it better to go to the range with the real thing?
thanks

A combination of both. Nice days you can go to the range and bad days stay at home with the air rifle. The air rifle helps you focus on your follow through.

I think the air rifle helps you with trigger control. There is no recoil so any gun movement during the shot is all yours. I also think shooting paper for practice is more help than shooting steel. You realy get to see where your shots went, no guessing.

I like to shoot paper with pictures of the animals on them. You can track your misses and see if you have a trend developing ie. low right, high center etc. This will help you correct your hold, posture or anything else that's causing the misses.

Shooting paper takes courage, because the feedback can be too honest! On the other hand, creating a pile of brass working up a sweat shooting paper improved my score more than anything else; I sure need to get back at it before the season starts.

Re: Practice Routine
Paper at 50ft does tells it all! We started indoor 3 weeks ago on Monday nights and missed this past Monday as snowing and by next morning...7inches. One club is 5 minutes and the other club is 10minutes. I practice at the one that is 5 minutes. The one 10 minutes away has better heating....It was -7 today and stayed home! Maybe 10 tomorrow and staying home. Resting.................BCloninger wrote:Shooting paper takes courage, because the feedback can be too honest! Re: Practice Routine
Shooting paper's no joke. Not that I've shot silhouette yet (I was supposed to shoot my first time last week but wussed out because of weather), but with the shooting buddies at the rangerubbing it in that I haven't, I'm sure that I will be soon.
I shoot in an indoor four position league, and use the standing position to try and practice/learn (what I have learned though is that I am a horrible offhand shot). If you are thinking of actual range time, maybe you could look into a weekly four position league for some trigger time.

Should never practice...practice just reinforces bad habits

Re: Practice Routine
Bad practice reinforces bad habits. Muscle memory does apply. Dry fire into a blank wall about ten times to get rid of jerking. Shoot paper to see where you realy hit or miss that animal. Do it at about 40 meters so your edge shots show up better.
