Savage Mk 2 FV for Hunter Class

Hi Guys

Would the Savage Mk 2 FV make hunter class - it will be well within the weight & general dimension rules when scoped, but does it's bull barrel disqualify it?

It's been a while since I handled one, but I seem to remember the barrel not tapering. If that is the case, then it doesn't qualify for hunter class.

My "V" model Savage has a non-tapered bull barrel and would only be legal for Standard class. Are you sure yours would make the weight requirement with scope and rings? I have the BV model which is a laminate stock and there is no way that thing would come in under 8.5lbs. The laminate stock is heavy though.

Thanks for the reply. The reason I asked is because the IMSSU rules regarding the barrel only state that it must be a "hunting type barrel" - no mention is made of bull barrels as such, & I was thinking that varminting is hunting so therefore.....

Trent, my rifle with scope weighs 3.4 kg (7 1/2 lbs) so it is OK as far as weight goes.

I can't positively speak for Jason, but I'm pretty sure he was referring to the NRA Smallbore Silhouette rules in the USA. The IMSSU rules may be different.

Unlike the weight rule, the bull barrel rule does seem a little odd since I can't think of any particular advantage it confers in rimfire and it eliminates some pretty decent entry level rifles.

Yep, I was speaking to the NRA rules. Those are the only rulesets that I've shot matches under, so I can't speak to any other rulesets.
