My weekend harvest...

Post by GeoNLR »

Wanted to share this with you guys. This is my first bear with a bow. 10 yards and perfect shot... hard to ask for any more!

Oh... some ask me "What do you do with a bear?" ...easy.... it goes on the plate right between the bacon and eggs!

Seems like feral hog might taste better...

George, is it true that Arkansas has unlimited hunting of feral hog? The story I'm hearing is they've become such a nuisance that Game & Fish is practically begging hunters to "bring home the bacon".

Thanks for all of the well wishing.

Hogs - RGR that...they are begging... We went to cut off creek and killed 3 one morning and the game wardens were trying to get us to go back for more. Quin actually was the only one that killed any, I just helped get them back across the creek. I have killed some hogs before, in fact everyone I have ever had a chance at... 100% legal to hunt them during ANY open hunting season with the prescribed method. Coyote season is long and lets you carry a .30 cal rifle... many hogs killed during 'coyote' hunts!

Self guided? No guide... I hunt in the mountins west of Little Rock near Paron, AR (30 mins from LR) . Our lease is 8,500 acres and we have no fences. We do use bait, but no dogs.

10 Yards - Heart rate got up right when I spotted the bear, that is when I told myself I caould get excited later, AFTER I close the deal... that is when practice took over... started working out the legistics in my mind about what lane, when to move, etc. When the bear got about 15 yards out I was able to make my move and draw... held up behind a small 'shrub' at 10 yards... I think it sented me and paused broadside... placed the pin on the $ spot, checked my level in my sight to make sure that I wasn't tourqing the bow, took my breath and released the shot.... Wow ...what a feeling!

Just like a VERY LARGE shoot off...LOL. Seriously I have always credited Silhouette for many of my trophies... with out the mental prep and experience, I'm sure I would have a few less tags filled out!

As far as changing the name.... I would rather follow the 'Speak softly and carry a big stick' type of mentality... folks will figgure out on their own what category you fall into! LOL
