cz 452 american vs. varmiter

i'm dead set on getting a cz, as today i shot a cz 452 varmiter with cheapo bulk ammo (-1.25" @ 100) and it out shot my savage mkii bull barrel with match ammo (-2" @ 100).

seems almost any ammo fed in the 452 shot very well from the "garbage" $1.47 a box stuff to $10.00 a box stuff.

i will be shooting from bench at 100 and 200, and smallbore silhoutte.

question is to you guys that have or have had shot both extensively at 50, 100, 200 yards, which one tends to be more accurate?
do i give up 2" of barrel and go with the heavier varmint, or go with what i imagine is a more balance rifle with the 22" american?

All a matter of preference: Mine is the Varmint.

Have had both and other CZ 452 models. For silhouette or bench shooting, the Varmint is my choice. For hunting or for a lighter gun for kids/small women, I would take the American.

For sihouette, they both work ok. The stocks really let them down in my opinion. There isn't enough drop at the heel and not enough comb height. But they shoot ok and you can use them quite effectively. For the price they are hard to go past.

The American is easier to float the barrel on, and is substantially lighter. I still liked mine, it shot really well but now that I'm going for a new rifle I'm going to get an Anschutz and be done with it. The CZ served its purpose and was quite a good rifle, no complaints really other than stock fit for silhouette.

The Varmint has the barrel lug which makes floating and bedding a little trickier. It is a lot more nose heavy. Some people like that, others not so much. The forestock is a little flatter, wider and longer. It rides the bags a little better but is by no means a bench rest stock.

Both shoot equally as well and you run the chances with any gun you purchase. Some shoot better than others so you can't expect that buying one over the other will guarrantee its a better shooter. Luck of the draw, but at least with CZ they all seem to be pretty fine shooters.

Given you say you want to do a mix of both silhouette and bench, I'd choose the varmint for the slightly more bag friendly stock and the nose weight wont be an issue.

thanks for the offer, it will still be a few months b-4 i'll be able to have enough scratch to get one (unless i can sell my muzzle loader, bow, and other trinkets). i went through too many bsa's to put one on something i want to depend on, as a matter of fact, i just received a new platinum 8-32 target that replaced one that crapped out on me. i'm trying to sell it for $60.00 to put towards a nikon. thanks for the line on your buddy's stick, i will keep it in mind.

i have a varmiter that i am working on now. my current rifle is a cz453 which comes with set triggers.with wolf ammo i get 1 inch or better groups at 100 yds. its more expensive but worth it because of built in trigger ajustments.
