Pardon my ignorance but can someone explain this process to me

I'll give you a quickie.
First you get a machine shop to make a steel bar exactly 1" in dia. and about a foot long. Then you mount your rings on the rifle. You put some valve grinding compound on the bar, place it in your rings and work it back and forth. Tighten the top rings down every now and then and stop when all the surfaces inside your rings are shiny. That will true up your rings so they won't bind your scope. I'm sure someone can embellish my instructions but that is the basics. Be careful not to take too much off. The Al ones go fast.
