Anybody use rosin, stick-um', etc on their stocks?

I realize that this isn't normally a problem during the colder months, but even yesterday when the temps were in the 70's, my rifle can tend to get a bit slippery. It's probably partly due to sweat on the hands, bullet lube on the hands, etc, but towards the end of a match, the rifle forend and grip area can get noticably more slippery. I should mention that my stock is a 1712 FWT in the black graphite configuration. The surface is textured, but when it gets a little slippery, the texturing really doesn't help.

Does anyone apply any kind of rosin, stick-um, pine tar, or other similar material to their stocks in order to ensure a more solid and consistent gripping surface?

Hmmm... I'm wondering if that's even legal, but I don't have a rule book available right now.

There are people using different degrees of texturing, but most favor keeping a towel handy.

I don't have my rulebook handy either, but I don't remember seeing anything that prohibits this kind of thing.

If there is a rule against stick-um that anyone is aware of, please let me know before I do anything against the rules.

Come on guys , get a grip........ Why would it not be allowed? Rosen is used extensively at the Olympics so the gymnasts wont slip and crash.

You wouldn't want to lose your grip and fall off the rifle, would you?

I use a piece of textured tape on my trigger guard for my thumb to grip

Guys:

When shooting smallbore, I found that reloading mags would leave bullet lube (particularly on hot days), on my trigger finger. Too slippery!, So, I bought a dozen savage mags for my 1712, and now I don't have to reload during a match, problem solved.

As you can likely figure out, I need all the help I can get!

Had the same problem but what i did was have alcohol pads in my shooting vests and wipe my trigger finger after reloading.

Rosin was pretty regularly used when shooting the Thompson Contenders in Hunter Pistol. Particularly in warm weather. The Contender grips were so slick that a combination of sweat, bullet lube and gun oil kinda manufactured a "shooter's snot" that was like grabbin' an eel. Glue the gun to your hand with spray rosin (or bag). Problem solved, No mention of it in the rules.

I say use it. And if you should happen to beat me (if I show up at the nationals), I'll have a good case to challenge your win based on using sticky goo to aid your hold.

Dang - I forgot to look in my rulebook again, and don't have it with me. I certainly don't remember seeing anything in the rulebook prohibiting a shooter from using rosin on his/her hands. I remember that you cannot use any kind of clothing with artificial supports, including shooting gloves, but nothing about what kind of lotion you use on your hands.

I think I'm going to buy one of those pitcher's rosin bags just to see if it helps keep my hands from getting slippery. I think it's a combination of sweat and bullet lube that makes the junction between rifle and hands get slippery.

Mary, Hoppe's #9 would work better. Wonder if they could capture "Eley Primer" as a perfume?
