Good to know. After seeing problems with three of four Cooper rifles owned by friends in the last several years (though the one good one was really good), I'd stopped considering paying the expense of a Cooper rifle anyway.

You guys know I have 2 Coopers that my son & I shoot. Both are darn fine guns & I don't have the disposable income to replace. Heck with the economy it ain't that easy to buy ammo much less 2 new rifles.

Just went to Cooper's site and heres a quote:

"The board of directors has asked Mr. Cooper to resign as President of Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc."

The part of this whole deal I can't yet fathom is that today I got in from being away on business since Sat. Took the liberty of a few hours this afternoon at the range and shot darn well with my Cooper 57M. Even was bragging to my oldest son (who shoots a Jackson Hunter in AA). Then a bit later I look at the forums and all changes.

Now next trip or match at the range as a result of no action of our own we will most probably become brunt of political outrage. I don't want any chance that my sons be involved in that at all.

Can't afford to replace these in this economic times (I really do like the guns too!) as prices surely just dropped big time. So looks like we'll just pass on any competion for the foreseable future to avoid any conflicts.

Pete, I wish I thought you were kidding.
I bet nobody who knows you would direct any "political outrage" your way.
And, if you run into some loudmouth who won't accept the explanation that you bought the rifles before ANYBODY knew Dan Cooper was a godless commie, just add his name to list of morons and go about your business.

Cooper Obama Thread

Post by alsmith »

If in determining who we vote for we just focus on one issue then it is likely that "we" will end up with someone as President that is unable to deal with the full breadth of issues that will confront the next President.

Agreeing or disagreeing with Dan Cooper's support of Obama does not detrermine if Cooper rifles are good or bad. We live in a country were people can have different ideas and views on issues.

Obviously, Dan Cooper, thinks that Obama will make a better choice for President. Since when does this mean that we should automatically stop doing business with his company.

I do not see any reason why someone would get into a heated debate with you regarding your choice of rifle. Anyone that does that is as dumb as Dan Cooper. I would not berate you for your choice of weapons for any reason. Do not let this keep you or your sons away from a range. Come to Winnsboro for the Southern Nationals and you will be welcome with open arms and no one will say one thing to you about your rifles! If they do, let us know!!

The smart shooter chooses a rifle based on needs, reputation of the rifle, and preference in look and feel, not political affiliation of people involved in the company. My shooting group might (okay, would) tease a bit, but nothing like real harassment. Cooper's are beautiful and have a great reputation, so if this drives their price down a bit I'm not above grabbing a premium rifle at a bargain price if it suits a need.

Dan Cooper did a really dumb thing and will be vigorously punished for it. It would be unfair to Cooper rifles for his foolishness.

If the libs get their way we won't be shooting any guns. Your prized Cooper will end up in the scrap heap along with my Anschutz.

That's unlikely since not all Democrats are liberals, and they sure don't toe a party line. Besides, there's a Supreme court ruling that would take a constitutional amendment to get around and that's not happening.

YET!! Wait to see who he appoints to the Supreme Court if elected and see if it comes up again. I for one do not want to take any chances. People here in PA would have never thought smoking would be outlawed but guess what? There are no public restaurants with smoking unless you restrict your occupants to 18 and over, plus no smoking within 15' of any entrance to public building.
Besides, we here in PA cling to our guns and religion anyhow!

You guys should check out the article in the LA Times about Dan Cooper and his donations. It states that nine months ago he made the donation to Obama because he didnt want Hillary to get the nomination and other reasons and then three months ago he donated to McCain and Palin. Sounds like hes got his head so far up his ass that even he cant make up his mind and this guy used to run the company  Myself if I found a great deal on a Cooper I'd pick one up too.

So Dan Cooper gave money to both sides? It sounds to me like he tried to play both sides of the fence. And we all know what happens when you slip while straddling a barbed wire fence.....
