newbie question

can someone point me in the right direction for good gun to shoot silhouette with,also would a model 1807 anschutz be a good gun for a newbie to start with thanks in advance,scott

you may have to restock it but if you have an 1807 it is a great place to start. I shot one, restocked, for about 5 years.

A good gun would be any gun you have available. GO to a match and shoot. No one will laugh at you. They will be glad to have you there. They will help you and tell you more about the sport than you thought there could be. Look at what all of the shooters are shooting and in particular look at what the better shooters are using AND watch how they shoot. Most people will answer any of your questions.
The most popular guns are anschutz and I guess the most popular glass is Leupold BUT you can be competitive with other stuff that you like or can afford.

Yeah, I've been shooting since Jan '07, about half that time with a Savage that was a nightmare, and since then a CZ 453 Varmint that's been great. With a Tasco Target/Varmint 6-24x42mm scope that's only worth about $100. And that CZ/Tasco has me creeping up on AAA class now, in both hunter and standard. So you don't have to spend a lot of money to start out and start being competitive. Improving your skills along the way is more important than getting the absolute best and most expensive hardware. Later on they'll certainly help as your skill improves, but there's quite a lot of equipment out there that'll do the trick for quite a while. I just bought a used Anschutz 1712 FWT and a Bushnell 4200 Elite 8-32x40mm scope, but I may still be shooting the CZ for a little while with that Bushnell on it. I think the Tasco might be packing it in lately, so I want to try the CZ out for a while with the Bushnell to confirm that suspicion. I honestly don't think the CZ's holding me back at all, and I really enjoy shooting it. The Tasco, however, I think may have started shifting internally now and then, as the CZ seems to be throwing a shot here and there now. It never used to do that, so I think the scope's toast. We'll see. Anyway, lots of ways to go. Practice is the key.
