Texas State Smallbore Silhouette Championships
I want to express my deepest thanks to Frank Carrillo and his lovely wife, Joe Rodriguez and the whole El Paso crew for making this event such a fun shoot. A personal THANK YOU to Evelio McDonald for providing technical and moral support to those of us with equipment problems.
Although the wind god Listo was quite active ruining life for those of us with lesser abilities during both days, the big boys and girls managed to shoot some very impressive scores.
Fellow Arizonan Jim Rose, from Phoenix, won both the Hunter and Standard categories. While I do not recall Jim's Hunter scores, I do know he shot a pair of 36's in gusty winds to take top honors in Standard Class.
Fellow Phoenician Joy Cox shot a personal best of 37 during one of the Standard rifle matches, but fell just short of catching Jim in the aggregate.
The usual suspects, Mark Pharr, Bill Zander, Bill Motl, Kathleen Garvin and a couple of shooters from Juarez, Chihuahua, also turned in some spectacular scores. My shooting buddy and spotter, Jim Hebenstreit, managed to do quite well in racking up awards in the BOOF category
As usual the hospitality was first class with a nice brisket dinner on Saturday and excellent range-cooked POZOLE provided for lunch on Sunday. Only bad part was that I could not find a suitable container to take the rest of it home with me.
Tucson Rifle Club will be hosting the Arizona State Smallbore Championships during the first week in October. If y'all would like to attend, please send me a PM and I will forward you a copy of the program as soon as it is available.

After spending 4 hours sitting at the AZ/NM border waiting for the dust storm to quit, I decided to take advantage of the tail wind and keep going north. It was real crappy weather but I got good fuel milage until I had to park under an unserpass in Cheyenne for about an hour to keep out of the hail. Oh well, I will make the AZ shoot in Oct.
