I know this topic is in another thread but it really needs attention. As many of you may know, especially washington shooters that Tacoma Sportsman Club has posponed and may even cancell the silhouette program they have. There is a meeting on April 15th at 7:30 pm to discuss what they are going to do with the range. If possible anyone who can attend should attend to let them know that we are serious about our sport. I will be attending the meeting and hope to see alot of you there.

I guess you arn't a big enough revenue generator for the club.

Is that what your club has come to? If that is the case, I have seen the same thing happen at other clubs that have been taken over by the 'high rollers'.

You do have my sympathy.

Matt,
I will not be able to make it but you can comment that Don Leitner from Florida has shot at the silhouette matches in Tacoma on many occasions on trips to Washington. I can't even get him out to one of the local matches here in Florida but he will shoot all the matches at Tacoma, PeEll and Machias.

Can anybody come to the meeting. Or do you have to be a member of the club? I will see if I can make it to the meeting. Also something should be coming UPS next week for you.

Anybody who uses that range is welcome in my opinion because you pay money to use it. I'm not exactley sure if you have to be member or not to attend the meeting. I let my membership run out in march becuase of this whole deal but I'm still going to show up and voice my thoughts. Membership should not be an issue because they open it up to anybody who wants to pay. Maybe Mike can add some knowledge on the membership issue. Yes I believe its going to be held in the main building.

P.S. Byron I'm not trying to avoid you. I've had alot on my plate this last week and I just got Lasik surgery yesterday. WOW

now my vision is 20/20 without glasses or contacts. Anybody out there thinking about it its worth it.

The Chairman tells me any are welcome to the meeting. I can only suppose that any voting matter would be restricted to members. If you have a membership card, I would bring it. On the other hand, I've never seen them try and sort members from non-members.

I have 4-6 people showing and we're trying to get a copy of the meeting minutes and by-laws so we're no completely unarmed like the last meeting...

The current plan is to approach this as a way to try and restore the matches.
If that fails, we're going to try and work a compromise to "share" the range with open-rimfire during the week (which I think we're all open to, who wouldn't want to shoot more?!?!). If they decide that non-rimfire can shoot on the range we may be looking at having to make the target stands mobile. If it looks like they're trying to railroad through turning the rane into something else (archery or sporting-clays) then our fall-back position is to try and get the targets and stands donated so we can take them to a range that is actually interested in shooting sports.

They had to share a range with the big bore shooters in Utah and the range went to hell. It was a nice range when it was small bore only but that changed. Like I said befor, you arn't generating enough money for the club.

No one can. Any match, no matter the sport, can compete with a $5 game of trap that lasts five minutes. Since they can't use all of the trap machines they have now, I'm not sure how they plan to generate more revenue other than sharing the range, which again, we'd fully support.

We certainly can't compete with the Trap revenue stream but we could raise the price match? Doubling it to $10/gun seems reasonable...

I don't even think this is about money. If it is, so be it, a price raise would be in order. I think this is more about the fact every other range and building stinks compared to the match range.

Hey, don't forget what it costs to bring in that amount of money. Every range that I have looked at the books on the actual amount of money made vs. spent the trap/skeet/sproting clays profit was much lower than those with resusable or less expensive targets.

Bingo Mary.... I've noticed the same here. The money looks good till you look at the expense. For us a shipment of birds alone is over $5k with shipping, now add the electricity for the lights on night shoots and heat for the club that is turned up in the winter months for them to stay warm and when you add it all up it's a meager profit at best. I don't mind that as it is still a shooting sport, but they seem to take over clubs by flooding the meetings and getting their needs ahead of eveyone elses. So when you look at it you need to participate not only at the range, but in the politics of the club if you are going to survive. There is certainly strength in numbers.
