CZ-452 Magazine Questions

I wanted to order a few spare magazines, but I have some questions first.

I saw that there's a steel magazine well available (evidently it's actually a Brno part). Does anyone here use one?

If I stick with the original plastic well, should I also stick with the plastic magazines?

Are there any performance considerations regarding a switch to steel components? I've read that some chemicals used in gun maintenance can adversely affect the plastic.

So what's the scoop?

go to rimfire central.com and search for "brnomann". Denny sells metal BRNO mags, single shot adapters, and metal magazine wells.

I have all three and got all three from him. Great guy, great service. One note, when I switched my plastic mag well to metal on my 452 Silo, I did have to use the release tab from my plastic mag well to get enough of the tab exposed from the bottom metal for my liking. I know people that have just left them, but you need a fingernail to et your mag out.......

i have 4 metal mags from cz for my 452 sil. they are great, they stick in the gun the fist few times i have put them in. my dad has had the same problem. once you get them in and out a few times they are perfect. i found them in a local shop for cheap and grabbed them. i would like to get the single shot adapter next and maybe the metal mag well as well.

Hey Steve!! want to shoot sunday, smallbore at ben avery???

my mags came in boxes that were market cz, never seen any brno's. hope this helps

I do use the metal mags from Denny on RimfireCentral for my CZ452 Varmint, but I don't use the metal magazine well. I'm always close to being close to the weight limit for hunter class with that rifle, and that metal magazine well adds a lot of weight. It seems well made, but I've never had any trouble with my plastic one and I can make weight for both classes using it.

I need to find an accurate scale - I got the rifle (452 Silhouette) and scope (Mueller APV) which adds up to 111.9 oz (out of a maximum of 136). I still have to wait for my rings to get here, but I can't imagine them weighing too much. With more than a pound of headroom, the combination of the metal well and magazine shouldn't come too close to the max silhouette weight for hunter class.

You should be fine with the silhouette model of the 452 using that metal mag well. My varmint has a heavier stock, especially after I rebuilt it, and a lot heavier barrel than the silhouette model.

I just ordered a CZ452 American for a back up for our league and I'm hoping with a Leupold 6.5x20 EFR I can come in at, or under, the 7.5 pound weight limit.

Bob, a 452 American with the Leupold scope should come in around 6.5 lbs or less. A 452 Varmint will push the limit, but not the American. It surprised me that a Anschutz 1712, which only weighs 1 lb more, is so much more tiring through a match!

Great, that is what I was thinking/hoping, but one never knows till you get it or know somebody with one as sometimes the advertised weights and actual weights are off, ususlly due to wood differences.

My 1712 with a Pharr stock is about 3 ounces heavy for this league which is a real bummer. I wish we could get them to follow the NRA light rifle rules on weight, but they have a hang up about going to 8.5 pounds. To many rules means a locker full of one sport rifles, so is that bad?

You're right - I should have double checked! A scoped CZ 452 American will weigh about 1 pound under the Hunter class limit, or about 7.5 pounds.
