Beginner Advice?

I need to put together a really cheap preferably used single shot smallbore rifle that I do not care about to lend to folks who want to try Smallbore Silhouette. The last time I let someone try one of our Anschutzs, the person broke the firing pin somehow and it was expensive to replace. I do not want a repeater because magazines are just something else for the borrower to loose or tear up. I need a grooved receiver and a wood stock. Grooved receiver because I have lots of BKL ring sets. Wood stock because I am going to put threaded steel inserts in the butt of the stock and fit several recoil pad spacers to quickly adjust length of pull for different size shooters. The CZ is a lot more money than I want to put into a loaner. This needs to be a true beater but tough and functional. Anybody got any idea what I should be looking for?

Do you guys ever get the CIL or Savage manufactured Anschutz's down in the states, or are they a Canadian thing. Anyways, they can usually be had for a couple of hundred bucks and make excellent starter/loner rifles.

You really don't want to lone someone something that really sucks, they may get discouraged. How badly do the new Savages with the accutrigger suck? They might be an option.

Bobby that's a good suggestion from Steel_ram. CIL in Canada used to market several Anschutz models under their own designations.
Models 310,170 and 180. I have seen them turn up periodically on
Rimfirecentral.com selling for about $150-200. They are all 64 actions,
but are very accurate but very basic rifles and have grooved receivers.
They would be just the ticket for what you have in mind.

Hi Bobby, At my matches in Colorado, I use Remington 580 single shot with a Simmons 44 mag scope and Anschutz 64 MS single shot with a Weaver KT-15 scope. Remington was about 80 dollars 6 years ago the scope was on sale for 100 dollars. You do not have to spend a lot of money to get decent starter / loaner guns. I would look for older Remington 580's or 581's ( 581's have a magazine) to use as starter / loaner guns

Are you sure you want to subject a beginner to the hassle of single loading 22lr's on the clock? How about one of the Marlins with a tube magazine?

I seen a Savage bolt repeater tapered barrel high stock with scope at dicks for 189 bucks. Looked like good starter/loaner to me. Not sure about accuracy but looked interesting.
