Yet another 10/22 Shooter

Yeah, I probably have $700-$800 or so tied up in the 10/22, but a part here and a piece there is alot easier to pay for little by little. Most of yall have scopes that cost more than my whole rig.

I had the pleasure of shooting next to you on several relays at Benton this weekend, and you need to stay in the sport shooting what you like! You had good form and seemed to enjoy being at the range so keep it in your life.

One of the best setups I ever built was a CZ Varmint with a Weaver KT-15 scope that I sold to buy the scope on my Annie - that rifle was also at the match and did very well for the young man that bought it - so I know you don't have to spend a ton of money to build a very competitive rig. My personal high score was shot with a Remington 504 and a Leupold VX-II. Still a nice rig, but not the high dollar set up I have now that I still haven't made the desired break-throughs with.

Shoot what you like and don't let any of us intimidate you. I know from personal experience that 10/22 with surprisingly few tweaks can compete. It isn't my personal choice, but so what? I love this game in part because I love to tinker, and you may have noticed, because I love bucking conventional wisdom.

It's all in the shooter and practice.

I saw a couple of 10-22 on the line at the Classic, on looked like a bone stock carbine. I don't remember anyone sneering or saying anything unkind to anyone shooting any make of gun, except the the playful jabs between a lot of old friends.....Shoot what you got, treasure the experience, and have fun. And by all means, keep on shooting.

Shooting is more than just the final score or winning your class. A person should use whatever equipment you have and challenge yourself to shoot right up to the ability of that equipment. When you can do that, you will have become a Master class shooter, regardless of what classification your scorebook says you are.

Don't worry about what other people have or are using. Just think positive, squeeze that trigger, and have fun!

Thanks for the encouragement. I was pretty bummed out about the whole thing. I guess I felt like I was under alot pressure to score well, but I just wasn't comfortable shooting either of my guns. My Ruger will definately shoot sub-moa at 100m pretty consistantly using SK, but I could use some better glass. I was thinking maybe a T-24.
I decided to just sock away some $$ for one of yall's used Annies later on. It seems someone always has one for sell.

That is a pretty solid plan. The nice thing about an Anschutz is that you never have to question who's responsible for a miss and all you have to do for the rifle is keep it clean and feed it right. And oh yeah - practice, practice, practice...

Also remember that most of us own high end colorful guns because we enjoy them. It's a personal taste thing. I enjoy owning very accurate, distinctive rifles. Doesn't mean I shoot to their ability.

There ya go BATTMAN, I think since I have been shooting small bore everyone I know has started with what they had and built up or moved up from there. Only one shooter who if I remember right was an engineer for Honeywell and had a few bucks to play with bought a Rem 40 action, custom stock, custom barrel, and he didn't shoot any better than anyone in his class, now he is off fishing in tournments somewhere on the weekends, the last I heard. If your having an ok time with small bore wait until you shoot high power, once you hear the clang of the steel, the animal falls, there will be no turning back!

Well, here is my racer. It's kinda short though, needs a booster seat to sit in the rack. It really needs a Kidd trigger, and a longer barrel or a bloop tube. Anyone got parts for sale?

I also have a Boyd's thumbhole stocked 10/22 with a 16.5" barrel. It doesn't like to fit in the rifle racks at the local Silhouette matches. This seems to be a problem for a lot of 10/22 shooters.

The popular bbl's all seem to be on the short side, unless you opt for a longer, tapered, sporter style bbl.

I'd like to have a longer (maybe 22") VQ carbon fiber sleeved bbl, with a little more weight out near the end. Anybody know if such an animal exists? (I know, I know, I should look on RFC, but once I start looking, then I start spending).

I just finished the first stage of my project build for my daughter. When I saw that picture, I thought you had stolen my rifle!!! Except, I just finished shooting it and it's sitting right beside me as we speak!!

I've put a Majestic Arms Aluma-lite barrel on a stainless matte finish rec'ver. Mounted all of that in a Boyd's Evolution (Looks alot like the thumbhole but it's ambidextrous) in the exact same color scheme you have. Yesterday, I put a 4x12 40 AO Bushnell (nothing expensive but a nice piece of glass) on it and worked the heck out of the stock trigger. I polished the sear and hammer junction, took some edge off of the sear engaging groove on the base of the hammer and replaced the factory sear spring with a softer version. I've got it down to around the 3 1/2 to 4 lb mark but it's still not as smooth as I'd like. Like you, I really need to just fork over the bucks and put a Kidd trigger in it.

BTW.....What are the specs on that scope?
