Alright....you've all succeeded in making me look at the Anschutz line of rimfires...are you happy now???

So...give me the run down on makes and models, "tweaks" that are commonly done etc.

I'd be willing to spend something in the 1,000 dollar range if that's a reasonable price for a used Annie.

Model = 1712 - tweaks = Insert bullets, pull trugger...$1400-$1500 in hand

Don't worry about a "race gun" or a build, they run about $2600 or so, and I have YET to out shoot my best scores with my stock 1712 with my build (have shot the build for 2+ full seasons...it'
s NOT the rifle...LOL)

If you are looking to stay in the $1,000 range, I have a friend that is fixing to sell his 1700. I think he will be asking that for his. they have the longer barrel, with a gray graphite stock. at $1,000 would be a good solid rifle, PLUS you could always throw it into a Pharr stock. With The Pharr stock costing you an additional $500 or so, you would then have the Anschutz stock to sell. I would think you would / could have less in a "Pharr Rifle" than a new 1712. Plus you would have a rifle to shoot while your stock is on order.... Options are out there....

Will post some details here so someone / anyone can chime in to 'keep me straight'

1700 -

23" blued barreled 54 action
Gray mcMillian Stock
Single stage trigger

The rifle is light, not the same weight as a wood stocked 1712

1712 -

21.6" blued barreled 54 action
Wooden stock (Both same style)
2 stage trigger

The 23" barrel should 'hang' as well or better than the 21.6" action in the Pharr stock.

the 1712 barreled actions were selling in the $950 mark, when avalible, this is w/o a stock.

single stage trigger can be retrofitted to a 2 stage for $100 from 10X or Neil Stepp, some have found a even trade. The 54 single stage trigger is as good as they get.

I would think you could get $100 - $200 for the McMillian on RFC???? Have seen wood sell for $250 -$300 , so I'm saying this is on the low side, but you would have to of course find the buyer. Can not imagine not drawing $100 +

Bolt / action/ firing pin / lock time/ = identical - 1.4" of barrel length would be the difference

I went and did it. Ordered a 1712 barreled action with two stage trigger from Champions Choice (Homer is the nicest guy to deal with). Now I need a stock and have already got the Lilja barrel for it. I should have it put together over the winter, depends on how much the local gunsmith has on his plate.

Irish 764, you also may want to check out rimfire central theres a 1712 with a two stage trigger in a Mcmillan stock in the classifieds for $1400. I beleive one of "our" members has it up for sale.

I just got my 1712 at the first of this year. Champs Choice is where I got it from. I had a choice between a single or a two stage trigger, can't remember about the stock though. I got a black McMillan. The guy that I had it sent to was already in their files, I gave them a credit card # and bam that was it. By the way my Grandmother was Irish and she was true Irish (cussed and drank beer), but in English not Galic, you will have to help me out with your post at the bottom.

I believe I'm on the right track for a 1700 with George. I'm a left-handed shooter so the McMillan stock will be up for sale soon. I'll have to order a left-handed model.

Tell me more about these Lilja barrels...are there other aftermarkets for the Anschutz line?

I won my Lilja barrel at the Conrad Cup. I had a choice of Lilja of Shilen and took the Lilja. You chose the caliber and whether you want a normal chamber or a match chamber. These barrels have to have some machining done by your gunsmith to be able to be put in your action.

What's the take on the 1415? As near as I can tell, the actions etc are all the same on these rifles. The model numbers seem to have more to do with trigger options (single stage vs double..adjustable vs non..) and stock configurations (sporter vs target) than anything else.

Am I missing something?

The 14xx series rifles are based on the model 64 action, which is a fine action in it's own right. These rifles are usually considerably less expensive than their top-of-the-line cousins which are based on the model 54 actions. I do not believe that the triggers are interchangeable without serious gunsmithing work. ($$$$$).

The 17xx rifles and barrelled actions use the model 54 action, which is arguably the very best factory rimfire action on the planet.

My take - the model 64 is very good, and will most likely out-shoot you for the rest of your career. However, if you want the very best, get the model 54 action.

How come I have a 1710 Monte Carlo Meister grade, rollover comb, single stage trigger, when everyone else has a 1712? Did the world switch magnetic poles while I was away? Am I not worthy?

My rifle barely makes 8 1/2 pounds with a BR 24 Leupold (had to hog out that beautiful stock............).

My question: can I get a Pharr stock for the 1710?
