Train Rails

I'm trying to start something in NH. So KC is way to far. I found a scrap yard but they have limited amounts of train rail. I'm waiting for quotes from them now.

A & K is based out of Utah but has offices all over including the North East....they depot stuff all over. Go to locations on the A & K Railroad Materials site....call the closest. Their 'Hamden Yard' is in Connecticut (203) 495-8799

Snake right now I'm doing all the financing myself. So I'm trying to buy the best I can get for as cheap as I can get it. Shipping cost will kill me.

They cut to size...and they may have a depot closer to you. Can't hurt to ask...and crane rail or siding rail is the ideal stuff....main line rail is too heavy (and expensive). Companies that have gone under and had sidings scrap their stuff....sadly there's lots of them. And getting it cut to size is a problem...that stuff is tough to torch cut. We got ours from Granite City IL and used a float and a big pick up to haul it the 60 miles

Used grader or snow plow blades are heavy and tough. Check with local dirt contractors along with county and state agencies that plow the snow in the winter. You should be able to buy more of that stuff than you ever could use. I think I would skip weld that into a V shape for HP.

Mild steel works just fine for SB. You should be able to pick that stuff up from the local scrap dealer or get drops from a steel shop.

Good luck build your stands and I hope you get enough guys out to a match to make it all worth while.

I'm sticking to train rail or crane rail. I don't want to spend the rest of my life welding rails together.

Dang9. Do you have a way to transport?
Biggest factor is transport.
Is this rail going where I think?

Does this have a go fund me liknk that could be posted here?

I can make some calls to all the local railroads and beg for scraps. They don't all still hate me

You may want to offer them some free range time or something.

Often, they will want the scrap metal price (witch is rock bottom low right now)!
So they can write something on the balance sheets to keep investors happy. Rail aint cheap.

Actually I believe we were talking about surplus/scrap rail.....new rail is too pricey. NH is a long way from Tennessee or Missouri. I think the yard in Connecticut might be a closer source....Lots of trains there....that's how a lot of folks go to their jobs....so a lot of rail replaced...and hence scrap....maybe. The last spot market here had scrap rail at 10 cents a pound

Yes it is. But I lived and compeeted up there untill recently. And I'll be back at some point to kill some steel animals .

I spent many years working at various Railroads and rail related facilities in Mass, NH and ME. I may be able to find him some rail.

Dave I'll take anything I can get. I have a car hauler so I should be able to haul anything up to 18 feet.
Well I've put in two calls to A&K and Mid City. Both have taken my info but no call back...

Someone suggested a gofundme. and I chuckled. Maybe that's not such a bad idea. I'm hoping the club will get some funds from the NRA since it will be a major range improvements project.

Just don't take any government funds or they will own you in a few years.

TRC's clubhouse burned a couple years ago and they are still working out of a little RV trailer. Game and Fish seems to think they need to hire an architect to study their needs and then design a new clubhouse. I'll bet that will take 10 years.
