combined calander of events?
Is there anyone who could put together a calendar of silhouette events? And add it to Steel Chickens.
Best thing would be to make it so match directors could add thier own dates.
or
A forum section for events?
I know it can be done. This is how I figure out my schedule for all other shooting matches.
Shilouhette??? I have to hunt around all over the place or get lucky and find out by word of mouth. Then it almost always conflics with something allready on my schedule.
Allways talking about improving the turnouts and promoting the sport. Need to be able to find the matches.

Shooting sports was suppose to do that but their information seems to be about 6 month behind the times.

It needs to be here on Steelchickens. This is where people come to see silhouette-related things. It would be the easiest thing to do and very helpful. I've been begging for it for years but no dice.

Something like a Google Calendar would be a good fit.
- Many people (match directors) can update it as needed.
- Accessible through many platforms (web-based, linked into Apple iCal, etc.)
- Could be set up by regions or states (so you don't have to see EVERYONE'S match dates).
Don't ask me to set it up because I'm not skilled in web-based things like this, I have a few Google calendars sync'ed in to my iCal and think they work pretty well.
Either way, I support the idea.

I think we need to consult with the OLD RANGER on this one.
He is one of those techie guys so he can probably add something useful to the topic.

Yeah but the hard part is actually getting the information from the folks at each range.
I would agree to be an accumulator to start if everyone PM'd me with their schedules I would make a single post with all of them in it.
I would just need the dates and type and recurrence. i.e Smallbore and high power, first saturday of each month. or June 4,5,6 smallbore and high power.
So if people want to start this for next year start sending me info.

Wouldn't it be simpler for the administrator to make an 'open calendar ' by regions of the country and let the match directors fill in their events with contact info (e-mail address only)? It needs to be simple to be useful.

Yes it would be simpler. But it wouldn't get done right (if at all). I think some human eyes on it could keep it right. For instance, asking questions, not putting in duplicates, pestering people for their dates. Etc.

How about a "sticky" thread under the Club House forum titled "Match Calendars", or something like that. Permission to post would need to be granted by the administrator. Each post would simply be titled the name of the state, in my case, ARKANSAS. Then match directors, with permission from admin, could upload a PDF of their match schedules. That way, all matches would be listed by state, and a common calendar wouldn't get cluttered up with matches from across the country on the same dates. You could even add another thread for the big matches so that they would all be in a common location.
Just my .02 worth.

The problem is not all match directors are on this site. I would just allow anyone to post them. For instance I am just a shooter at our matches, I have no authority or special permissions. However I would post all of our dates so they were up here. Just sayin...

My thought was that it would prevent the thread from becoming a discussion on who knows what, and be limited to match dates only.

Too bad all that data we have to enter in the NRA Competition website for approved, regional, State matches is not a data file that could be shared. That application forces consistent terminology. Consistent format. But that will not happen in my lifetime I suspect.
The file in a perfect world would be search or "filterable" so if someone is going to PA in Sept they can filter to PA and Sept and see the entries. In NH there are three clubs that hold various Silhouette matches. To assist in keeping things organized and simple, I have a page on my blog with results. I simply put in all the future dates and once the match is complete, the scores tallied, one of our tech savvy shooters edits the page with a link to the results. But as Dave points out, only actively involved shooters know where the schedule/results are on line. How do we attract the shooters who just want to stop by and see what it is all about?
JD in NH.
