I have never used a vest. What is the disadvantage of a mesh vest?dustinflint wrote:.............buying a less-effective vest because it's cooler and lighter makes no sense to me.

Vests are great! They give you pockets to put stuff in like ammo and magazines. The leather vests are all the rage at Nationals
Almost every one wears one; it is quite the fashion statement. I seem to remember Jerry's was a whole rainbow of colors. At least I think it was. Maybe not.
The heavy leather helps dampen the wobble, at least it helped me.

Jerry who? Mine is faded blue suede and smooth white leather on the back.
You are right, the heavy leather does dampen movements and the pockets are great.

I wish I'd see them pop up in the Marketplace more than a couple every few leap years.

Re: Considering buying a vest
The advantage to a mesh vest is that it is cooler. The disadvantages are that they offer no stability. We wear vests for added stability. They also have pockets although the pockets don't do anything to help your shooting.
Get a leather or suede leather vest from Chris Winstead. Other than shooting a lot, a good vest is the best way to improve scores.
