4th of july nationals

Post by kevinbear »

Just talking to a few of the local shooters I'm in the minority expressing my displeasure with the 22 nationals being scheduled over 4th of july, I spend that day with the family doing the normal 4th of july routine. I'm not planning on attending and was curious if anyone else was not going to go for the same reason or how people feel about it in general.

it looks like they got small bore, big bore, and cowboy stack up behind each other. hard to take off three plus weeks in a row to shoot nationals. might just to have to pick one and be done.

The nationals sound like a good way to spend the fourth. :-bd

I'd rather spend it shooting in Raton, than battling the drunks on the Bay. I usually work the 4th to avoid the crowds. :ymparty:

Ultimately the attendance numbers will tell the story, it's been slowly declining over the years so we'll see if that trend continues or something else happens.

Can't imagine a better place to be or a better thing to do on the 4th.

This is not the first time this has happened and attendance has never suffered.

Kevinbear, I am sorry to hear you will be skipping the Nationals next year but I fully understand wanting to spend time with the family over that holiday.

Maybe I will be able to make it up to your neck of the woods for a match next year.

I thought it would be an excellent way to celebrate the 4th of July.

However my wife has other plans and I prefer to keep her happy.

I think its ok. Having the 4th in there saves me a vacation day so I'll probably get to do the smallbore and high power.

That being said I don't have a big tradition on this holiday so its a little different for me.
I buy all my guns from t-rex. He's a small arms dealer.

The Whittington Center picks the dates for the Silhouette Nationals when its their year. Just like they schedule classes, camps and other events. I do not think Greg had a lot of choice on the dates.

The dates work well for me. I get to take one day less of vacation time. I like that very much.

Yeah I must admit that as a working guy having to take less time off work is a major plus. I've been talking to a few locals who have never been to nationals and they're considering it this year for both the fact it's in Raton vs back east and the holday helping to save precious days off. Nothing is ever perfect for everyone or as they I guess.
