S.B. Nationals/Ridgeway How It Works?
So, this will be my frst time at this event. My first question is about scheduleing (which days ) will I need to stay in PA? I see the
Ridgeway calandar says Aug 1st is Silhouette "warm up" day. With Nationals listed as Aug. 2,3,4.
Let's make this perfectly clear.... I am a man of means, by no means. (read that as cheap or thrifty) Do I need to be there from the 1st through the 4th or 2nd-4th?
Should I guess that the August 2nd is Tech inspection? If so, is there warm-up / test and tune rangetime on the 2nd or only the 1st of Aug?
Supose I should go practice now?

Tap..tapp..tap..... is this thing on?
It's all good. I got my questions answered by The great and powerful Jud at the match today.
New Hampshire people are the best.

Heres how it goes. August 1st is the Nationals warm up match. Very nice match to shoot and I would recommend it. The Nationals is August 2,3,and 4. The range is open each morning for practice for maybe 1hr or so. The days are long (a lot of sitting because of all the relays). We will start each day with a 40 shot standard rifle match followed by a 40 shot hunter rifle match with awards at the end of each day. Hope this helps you a bit. Hope to see you in Ridgway. Thank you 44MAG.
Definately helps. I think I have the scheduling planned out in my head now. Time for me to gather supplies and plan my trip.
Have to fix a few more cars so I can afford the entry fees... but I wont miss this!

I don't understand all the sitting around................ Pe Ell runs 4, 40 shot matches a day with 5 relays for each match. That is 20 relays a day and they get done early in the afternoon. They have less than 1/2 the shooting positions Raton has and run as many shooters thru. Something is drastically wrong with the way the nationals are run.

ooohhhh yyeeeaaahhh. That same thing happened at HP. We put up with it for all of three relays before I climbed the tower for a little chat. I simply asked him to eliminate the unnecessary range commands that were leading to longer match times.

They really need to get someone to call the line that has shot silhouette before. The seem to find the guy that has shot 3 or 4 P and can't follow the calls that are in the book.

Jerry, The person calling the line at Ridgway (Dave) is great and is/was a silhouette shooter. Not sure why it takes so long but some of it I'm sure is how Greg wants it to run.Jerry G wrote:They really need to get someone to call the line that has shot silhouette before. I saw Gregg shoot silhouette once way back in about 84 up at the Short Grass range in Alberta. I wonder if he has ever shot since?

When Phoenix hosted the Nat's in 2001, he shot the HP State match to check out our range.

Jerry, you do realize that we do both smallbore and smallbore hunting in the same day. That is 2 40 shot matches.Jerry G wrote:I don't understand all the sitting around................ Pe Ell also runs 2 matches a day.
At the Iron Man we run 4 matches a day. Both guns smallbore and both guns high power. Of course we only had 48 high power shooters and 60ish smallbore shooters, but still.....

Pe Ell does 2 - 40 round matches a day with more competitors and half of the shooting positions. You guys need to get out and see how other clubs run matches.
