H&R M12 Rifle

New to the board. Im a NRA/CMP Highpower shooter. A local club is going to conduct smallbore silhouette shooting and I thought I might give it a go. Ive read thru some of the NRA rule book and have somewhat of a feel for this sport.

I'ld like to know if the H&R m12 rifle would be "legal" for smallbore shooting. Im not sure of its weight and dont see it mentioned in the forum. I assume its not used in silhouette shooting but I thought I'ld ask.

Beautiful heavy target rifle, along the same lines as a Win 52 family.
Problem would be the weight. With that extra long heavy barrel and at around 12 1/2 pounds, it is 2 1/2 pounds over weight. And that is before you try and put a scope on it.
For standard rifle I think max is 10lbs 2 oz. It might be even less for smallbore.
Maybe someone else can help me out here.
Come down to any match and try it out. Almost always you can find several people willing to lend you a rifle to try out the sport, with tons of opinions on which rifles to buy.

The rifle is over weight but................. I'll bet the match director would let you shoot in the match. Just remember, the ammo that groups at 50 yards may not group at 100 meters (110 yds) Have fun shooting at them little steel targets. The sound of the hit and seeing the targets fall over is infectious.

I am currently building a stock for my model 12 in an effort to make weight. The original rifle weighs 11 pounds. I cut 5" off of the original 28" barrel and trimmed as much as possible off of the stock. It was still 10.6 oz over weight.

I have built a balsa wood blank and in letter it. I am currently bedding it with marine tex and will finish it in 1 1/2 oz fiberglass. My estimation is that I will end up a pound short of the 10 pound 2 oz standard class weight.

Seems you have discovered the secrete that a wood stock is heavy. How much is the scope and rings going to weigh that you will have to add to the rifle? A 23" bull barrel is still very heavy. My heavy gun has a 19" barrel and an aluminum blup tube with a tuner on the end.

The scope and rings are 1 pound 5 oz. The 5" cut off the barrel was worth 13 oz not counting what was left on the lathe during crowning. I was also able to shave almost a pound off of the original stock with the help of a table saw and router table. I also found that a 10-22 Ruger scope base lines up with three of the existing scope base holes. Unfortunately it is fairly flat on the bottom. I ended up drilling a Ruger MKII pistol base, it fits the top of the receiver perfectly.

Keep trying........ even the goo-roo and I can do it.

Select upload attachment then find the picture you want to attach from your computer. Then hit add file and shazam. I haven't done it for a couple months but I think that is all there is to it.

I use an H&R M12. To make weight I cut 6" off the barrel and restocked with a Richards Microfit Silhouette stock. Mounted a Barska scope using Weaver side mount that I modified to fit the side mounts for the original receiver sights. Comes in right at 10lbs.
