Anschutz 1416 classic

Jeanne has looked at and likes a Anschutz 1416 classic to shoot smallbore silhouette with. I have a kimber HS, but she likes the light weight of the Anschutz. Who has experience with a 1416 and do they have a good trigger ?

Glenn, I have shot many of the 1416 (64 Action). They are a good starter rifle with a decent adjustable trigger. The lock time is quite a bit slower than a 1700 series action but for her just starting out I feel it would be a good choice. The ones that I have shot and seen shot, shot quite well. I feel that the 1416 is one of the best choices for a starter rifle. In my opinion. Check with Cathy Winstead at www.goodshootinginc.com on her prices. Good Luck Mike Haynes

Glenn, Also look at the Sako P-94S they are lite (like 6lbs) and shoot quite well. Just another option and a bit cheaper.

Look at Ultra Light Arms http://www.newultralight.com/, they are about the same price as an Anschutz, but very light, have great triggers (Timney or Jewel your choice) and there are a few folks shooting them, I loved the one I had. Norm's prices have come up quite a bit from when I bought mine, but still a fair priced custom.

Thanks guys. The 1416 is the way I'll be going. Jeanne thought she'd tag along on a couple of Cowboy silhouette matches and has now become our match director and has organized her 2nd regional....after taking my three best lever actions away from me ! If she likes 1/5 scale we may approach the board at the Oklahoma City Gun Club to ask if we can put on those matches also.

I think just about any bolt action rifle would be a decent starter. Really comes down to budget.

We have a regular master shooter at our matches who uses a Norinco with a Tasco 9x scope, custom stock and bulk ammo. Regularly shoots in the high 20's low 30's.

I started with Savage Mk II and Bushnell Trophly XLT scope, then added a Rifle Basix trigger. Quite cost effective, light (7lbs) and fairly accurate with the right ammo. I've used it for the last 1 1/2 years made it into AA. So definitely a good starter and I am sure it would continue to be fine, but I have been given the opportunity to upgrade to something better and in theory more accurate, so a 1416 Classic is coming soon.
