What is the most popular ammo for a CZ455, standard 1070 fps, or HV 1235 fps ...... or?
Thanks

Re: ammo for CZ455
If you go to a silhouette match you will rarely see anyone shooting high velocity ammo. I'm sure someone a little more knowledgeable can explain why standard velocity is so much more accurate.
My CZ likes Wolf Match, SK Standard Plus and does pretty good with CCI standard velocity.

I have used all 3 of the same as you, mostly Wolf Match Target, but as of late my pattern has widened. I have done the normal stuff, clean, foul, retest but no good results. So I wondered about velocity. Any ideas as to what would cause the pattern to widen? I am no gun smith.

Re: ammo for CZ455
The super sonic ammo drops back through the transonic zone between the turkeys and rams with unpredictable results . Ammo under 1100fps at the muzzle doesn't have that problem.

Re: ammo for CZ455
Conventional wisdom has it that high-velocity drop back through the sound barrier around the Turkey line, and this causes them to destabilize. And the some clubs prohibit high-velocity ammunition out of fear it will damage the targets. In my own experience, the real knock on high-velocity ammunition is the noise - they're uncomfortably without hearing protection.
CZ's are usually less picky than most, typically SK, Federal 711, or Eley.

Re: ammo for CZ455
As far as your groups getting bigger, there are a few things you can try.
The first thing I would do is to not shoot any more high velocity ammo, and stop cleaning the barrel. Most of the target ammo including the Wolf and SK have that waxy coating that seasons the barrel. When I clean my rifle it usually takes about a hundred rounds or so to get my groups to tighten up. Most folks on here would recommend only thoroughly cleaning the rifle a couple of times a year.

Thanks Dan, I have not used any HV in it, was asking before I did. I confused about the cleaning, some folks say clean and then foul it again, others say clean it after the season is over, others say what you do. I didn't understand why if I cleaned it, why then it need to be fouled again to shoot right, what was the point of cleaning it. Confusing.
I am so new to all of this I just don't know what to try. I will run another 50 rounds of all 3 through it tomorrow (if it doesn't rain) without cleaning it and report back.
Someone told me it could be the adjustment screw between the stock and the barrel, but I don't know anything about that.
Thanks for all the comments.

For Some reason a .22 rifle likes it a little dirty , it is a consistency thing , only clean for 1-2 shots where as dirty is consistently dirty.
I have also had my experience with HV with CCI blaser that shoots tops up to 60m but widens @ 100m as said due to bullet going back from Supersonic to subsonic.
I have found 2 rounds that pushes the envelope the best in terms of velocity Fiocchi TT sport 340m/s (1150fps) and RWS R100 they have really made hitting Rams easier in terms of Bullet drop yet start out at the edge of supersonic. very happy with these . Most of the Target ammo is tailored for 50m with 1020 fps being the norm. I have some Winchester HV at 1450fps as well I will try next time with theory being if you start that fast maybe still supersonic @ 100m.
so not the velocity that's the issue but transcending from Super sonic to sub sonic.

Re: ammo for CZ455
I got in over 100 rounds yesterday. Guess I won't be cleaning as much. With all 3, Wolf Match Target, CCI Standard and SK Standard Plus, off a rest at 40M, SK was the best, then Wolf, then CCI but all within less then 1 inch. Is that about normal?
Also I saw were someone mentioned using a 10/22, is that the normal Ruger 10/22 semi auto? I didn't think they were allowed in Smallbore Silhouette?
Thanks

Re: ammo for CZ455
10/22's are actually pretty common at silhouette matches. Same rules apply, you have to have a tapered barrel in hunter class.
The problem with 10/22's is that to get them to shoot reliably and accurately enough for silhouette one has to to do a lot of upgrades.
The folks that I have seen shooting 10/22's their rifles have very few original Ruger parts in them, my thought is that if you're going to spend all that money why not just buy an Anschutz 1712.

Re: ammo for CZ455
Thanks for the info about the 10/20, I had no idea. An Anschutz would be nice, but too many $$$ for me.
As for my test with the 3 brands, Wolf Match Target, CCI Standard and SK Standard Plus, off a rest at 40M, SK was the best, then Wolf, then CCI but all within less then 1 inch.
Are the results normal for my CZ455, or does it need more work?
Thanks

Do your testing at 100m. If your groups are over 1 1/2" you may need to do some work with the rifle like floating the bbl. I would think the Wolf and the SK both would get you good groups. I never had much luck with the CCI.

That mirrors my experience as well, both testing at 100 and with CCIJerry G wrote:Do your testing at 100m. Re: ammo for CZ455
Above poster noted velocity 'window' where 22s typically shoot, my dwindling cache of Fed 900 chronos at ~1140fps...and is under 1" at 100, so i'd say above post is pretty close.. Benchrest shooters 50yd in the past like it about 1050, which is where the old Lapua Midas used to run. The above Fed 900 isn't quite as precise at 50, but really shines at 100.
As far as cleaning, your rifle/ammo combo will generally dictate what's necessary. In my case the 900 leads up the throat after couple matches so I'll clean throat every 100 or so, bore is non issue as patching out from throat usually takes what little is in there out. Haven't notice any zero shift from clean to trashed though groups tend to open up at 100yds at about 150rds. This is with a Benchmark barrel.

Re: ammo for CZ455
I can't get to the range for days, (an hour away) but I can get 91yds here at home, would that tell me enough?
Forgive me but what is "floating the bbl" ?
This board is the best, you all have such good advice and info.
Thanks
More info: I measured again yesterday and I can get 90M. I will get to the test when the rain stops.
