Hunting Rifle Part 2
Just thought I would relate a quick story for anyone worried that they need to spend lots of $$....
Over the holiday weekend I had a couple hours to kill. So I headed out to the range and on the way stopped at my local sportsmans for some cheap ammo. All they had was Remington Golden bullet (more commonly know as golden duds). Bought it anyway because it was cheap and hate plinking with good stuff. So I get to the range and start plugging away. The golden duds seemed to work ok and even managed to roughtly site in at 100m. A master shooter happened to drop in to say hello. He asked if he could take a shot at my new ram spinner target. I said sure and handed him my beat up old CZ (an actual hunting rifle complete with dents in the stock, rust, and a fixed 6 power scope). He take the gun, looks through the scope and says "what power is this scope on?". I say 6, because thats all it has. He loads up 5 golden duds, takes 5 shots and hits 4 at 100m with a gun that he has never touched. He says to me "it's shooting a little high because of hi velocity but 4 out of 5 will do."
Take whatever want from this story, but it changed my perspective about equipment vs skill.

This is the exact point everyone was trying to make on the hunter evolution.
Or, more simply put..... "Just because someone buys or has a Formula 1 vehicle 'doesn't' make them a Formula 1 (or better) driver!" It's the person doing the steering and their ability.

Yep. Which is why us mere mortals need every edge we can get, knowing all the edges available won't make us master shooters, only a little better. So okay, sometimes it's like putting lipstick on a pig, but I need all the help I can get...

Actually, the reason I stepped up to an Anschutz was that I'd rather shoot than struggle with equipment that couldn't hack the pace.
