Just started using the FX3 25x40 AO, but I don't have any experience with the 6.5x20 EFR. I have been using the 6-18X40 VX2 AO. I was concerned that 25X was going to be too much magnification for me to handle, but I liked it. It does make it easier to pick a spot on the target. The downside to the FX3 25x40 AO is it doesn't focus as close as the 6-18X40 VX2 AO. I practice dry firing on reduced targets at 21 yards, but the FX3 25x40 AO does not focus that close. I will have to try the 50 ft focus adapter. Thanks - Mark

I've used both and currently use the 25x40. It weighs a few ounces less, so if you are chasing weight (I was), it is a good solution. What the previous poster said about focus distance is true -- the 6.5-20x40 EFR focuses to 10 yards so can be used on an indoor 50' range as is. I got a reducer/close focus adapter for my 25x so I can use it indoors. If you get a reducer, make sure you get the correct one -- older scopes (FX-III I believe) have a slightly different thread on the objective bell than the FX3's. I like both scopes and didn't see more wobble with the extra 5x. And chickens look mighty big with 25x...

Got one of the 25x earlier this year and use it on a high power rifle. A great scope nice and clear. This question is posted on the smallbore board so I checked my scope today and it easily will focus down to 40 meters. Liked it so well I just purchased another. I have a couple efr variables both boosted to 18x40. The 25 is easily equal to them for clarity

If I understand optics correctly if all the lenses in both scopes are equal quality the higher powered scope will always be darker, normally you don't shoot silhouette at dusk or dawn so it shouldn't matter.
AAA Shooter politically incorrect and loving it
