Match Schedules

Post by steve b. »

Howdy all,

I would like to know if there is one location on the net which provides the schedule for all the state champ. matches? I'm trying to look and see what I can attend and where.

Thanks.

I've been asking for this forever... Sure would be handy but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

Cathy tried on her website but she just doesn't get the silhouette traffic necessary to make it useful.

The Arizona state HP match is going to be on April 11&12th at Ben Avery Shooting Facility, and the SB match is going to be on the 16&17th of May in Tucson if that will help you out.

Thanks Jim,

I will add this to my list. That match is on my list now.

Dustin, yes, this should be something nailed down in short order. I'm shocked this is still not a resolved issue, and I understand about Cathy's website and traffic.

thanks.

Hey Dan, You and the rest of the El Paso shooters are always welcome at an Az match, some of the time you guys make up a third of the total shooters if not more.

Not sure how difficult it would be to add a calender on this site, has anyone approached Mike about it? I know we added one to our Club page and it works good for our club matches, for here, for consistency, we would need a moderator so it didn't get out of control.

I'm breaking my new rule of no conversations on SteelChickens unless it is to promote a match but here goes:

I sent Mike an email about a calendar and spoke to him about it at CBC in April. He is willing to do it but I think he's really busy and has forgotten about it. I don't want to drive him nuts about it so I let it drop - but it's important and would be VERY helpful.

The rules should be:

NO club/local/monthly matches - ONLY championship matches (state, regional or national)

ONLY information is (1) Name of Match; (2) location of match; (3) contact info, and (4) a link to the program/entry form.

I think it would take about 10 minutes to get it set up here.

A calendar is actually the 2nd from the top of my list of things to do for this website.

The top is to upgrade the forum software to the most current version and man have I ran into a series of road-blocks there.... But, as with many things, time and money solves all problems. So I ponied up the bucks and now I'm trying to find enough time to get it done right...

If anyone has an example of a good web-calendar software they think is useful, please post a link. My last few attempts to evaluate what was available didn't leave me as satisfied as I would have liked.

Dustin,

That is exactly what I was thinking. A few comments / suggestions:

1. Try to keep the dates firm - some of us invest in plane tickets and hotels, so changes are not so good.

2. If we don't get this organized at least at this level, we are destine to continue a decline.

3. Maybe there can be standardized form that each match director can fill out for the state champ match which will list all the required info.

Now here is the trick - scheduling.

I think the largest matches should get first chance to schedule, and the smaller matches work around those events.

There should be a 1 month window, in January, to schedule the year's matches. At the end of January, the schedule should be set.

We should have an e-mail group for all State Champ match directors to be involved in, and on the side these issues can be worked out.

At the end of the year, we should have a list posted here to show the attendance at each match. This will help people decide which matches they want to attend for the following year. It would be interesting to try different events every year.

We have to get out of the regional mindset and act like a national group. Organization is the first step.

My personal plan is for our company ( Anschutz ) to start supporting the state events with various forms of sponsorship. I have already identified some key people / events that I will help support, but I feel that if the manufacturers can get more involved, it may help bring new life into the sport.

To that end, we must get more organized. I would like a schedule for 2015, soon. And by us, not the NRA. The NRA can have sway over the National Match, but the rest is up to us.

Match directors, if you would like some sponsorship, please email me.

I will be picking between 5 and 10 events to help sponsor and also attend. I pick them based on: Attendance, Location, and Schedule.

I think this website is an excellent platform and has even more potential to help the organization process. I plan on helping to support this website as well.
