I am going to read over the equipment rules again. I have just about made up my mind to purchase a 1712 and start shooting. Will look for a donor gun for custom build in the future. You can never own to many guns.

Tricked out is fun but will take time and won't shoot any better than out of the box Anschutz 1712. Better to shoot than wait for gunsmith work.

They will shoot the same but they sure don't feel the same in the hands and when shouldered up IMO. Maybe it is because I am a pretty tall guy with big hands but the feel of a Pharr stock is full and meaty. Now when I pick up a standard stock rifle it feels like a miniature rifle to me. Then the Cowboy rifles feel like sculpted broomsticks. When I shoot my old Remington Model 12 pump now I literally feel like I am shooting a piece of pipe Oh and if you really do it up with a heavier longer barrel that also improves the feel. It just has to feel right to me. But I love to shoot them all and started with the CZ Silhouette rifle for 2 years before getting my 1712. Oh and I have lost to the little lady that bought my CZ for her first Silhouette rifle. Last year she got a Custom 1712 and loves it. We also have a young lady shooter that when the conditions are favorable for not needing much of a call can hang up occasinal 37s and 38s with her CZ in Boyds laminate stock when she is on.

I am about to redo the pad on my 54.18MSR and give it another go. But I am thinking I will stick with the 1712 for both classes as it's not the rifle holding me back. Just love the 54s feeling like my 10m Target Air Rifle and trigger. Never shot higher scores with it than the 1712 but I only tried a few months. Going to give it one more go but I think the one rifle for both is the way to go.

Jaxshooter, where are you located? Might want to head out to a match and look around and see what people have. I'm sure some will let you hold or shoot various options to see what you like.

Jax as in Jacksonville?? If so, we shoot every month in Jacksonville. I have a Standard rifle built on a 54 single shot, and a 1712 for hunter. More than welcome to try either one. Next match is tomorrow.....should be about 73 degrees, just right!!

Jax you would be well served to call Cathy Winstead-severin at good shooting inc. Shes a heck of a shooter and takes good care of us. Also call Dj's guns in Bothell WA as they are the only shop I've ever been in that regularly has multiple used anschutz rifles in stock. Bruce the owner is a true gentleman and will usually cut you a deal if he knows you're a competitive shooter.
